In September, Patrick Mahomes’s mother, Randi Mahomes, asked for some serious help from the Kansas City Chiefs kingdom. After losing her mother last year, it was tough for Randi to see his father, Randy Martin, battling for his life. So, she stayed with him day and night in the hospital, asking fans to show support through their prayers. On September 29, Randi had shared a heartfelt moment with her followers: a photo of her watching the Chiefs game from her dad’s hospital bedside. “Watching game with daddy today… prayers please for my dad,” she wrote, giving us all the feels.
And the prayers worked! In October, Patrick Mahomes’ maternal grandfather Martin was back at home in Texas with his daughter. But that doesn’t seem to be a happy ending to the story. Now, once again, the concerns and undisclosed illness have started. This is evident from Randi Mahomes’s new story on her official Instagram account.
In the story, she shared an old, vintage photograph of her and her siblings with their father, Martin. This picture depicts Randy Martin sitting on a sofa, holding his babies—daughters Lori Deal and Randi Mahomes—and son Joey Martin. Momma Mahomes also tagged her siblings—sisters Jill Herrington and Lori Deal—and her older brother, Joey Martin’s Instagram accounts in the story. The picture looks heartwarming and beautiful, but that’s not what the story is all about.

With her caption, Randi Mahomes drew fans’ attention to her major concern, and that is about her father’s health. She wrote: “Keep my father in your prayers (with praying emoji).” This caption indicates that Randy Martin is still not completely well, despite being discharged healthy from the hospital in October. And this isn’t the first time this month that Randi has turned to the Chiefs Kingdom for prayers.
Just a month ago, she shared an update on her dad’s progress, writing, “Had the best day visiting my dad.. please keep him in your prayers to get stronger #blessed.” Randi is close to her father, and her social media account bears testament to that. Last year in August, Randi had posted a photo with her father on Instagram and joked, “Almost got daddy to smile!!! #family #myrock #mygirl #daddy #blessed.” In 2020, she shared a collage of photos of her father on the occasion of Father’s Day.
Showing her love, she aptly captioned it, “Happy Father’s Day dad!! I love you.” Fans also joined her in wishing Matin. The three-time Super Bowl MVP’s mother had a family reunion with her father during Easter. Randi’s post featured all three of her children, and two grandchildren posing with her dad as she wrote, “Priceless time with my family ❤️God is so Great.”
Randi, who grew up in Troupe, a small town in East Texas, “believes that her humble, tight-knit town and her parents made her the woman she is today,” mentions the bio section of her website. And alongside her father, her mother Debbie Bates also had a role to play in that. Interestingly, as Randi has revealed on several occasions, the elderly lady used to be extremely excited whenever Patrick did something noteworthy.
Before the Chiefs defeated the San Francisco 49ers in the 2024 Super Bowl, Randi wrote on Instagram, “Momma i know you are cheering today from Heaven. I miss you every single day.. i can hear you yelling ‘Go Patrick.’” She once again rekindled her mother’s memory earlier this year when Partick made it to the Time 100 list: “Momma would be so proud & calling everybody in her contacts. I’m proud of you.”
As Christmas approaches, Randi might be all the more missing her mother since she has fond memories with her mother during Christmas. Last year, she shared a memory of her mother right before Christmas. Randi posted a photo with her mom and Mia and wrote, “Last year [2022] around time I was with my momma in KC, she loved it there and was the proudest ❤️ she was determined to get the Marriott tree Chiefs colors ❤️🎄memories are what i treasure.” The void looks to be compounded this year, as Randi has to stay away from her dear son this Christmas.
Randi Mahomes’s Christmas will be without her son’s family
Christmas this year is looking a little different for Randi Mahomes. While most families gather around the tree, her son Patrick Mahomes will be on the field, leading the Chiefs in a big game against the Steelers on December 25. With the Chiefs sitting at 12-1 and chasing playoff glory, there’s no time for them to slow down. Every game counts, especially with teams like the Buffalo Bills close behind. So, while Patrick tackles football, Randi has her own plans. But what is it?
Well, Randi Mahomes is heading to New York City to soak in the holiday magic. Excited for her trip, she posted on X: “Headed to NYC soon to see for Christmas. Suggestions of must do? Don’t want to forget something.” As soon as she asked her fans what she could do in NYC, they jumped in with their ideas—from must-see spots to delicious food recommendations. So, although her day might not include football this time, Randi Mahomes’s NYC Christmas adventure sounds like a festive escape to remember for sure! But as a person, Randi is quite family-oriented. And she sets examples for that.

In June Randi announced her retirement from her job as an event planner to play her role as a grandmother. She posted on June 27, “Tomorrow is my last day at the ‘Tree’ Hollytree. 19 1/2 years & TRULY on a roller coaster of emotions especially because Hollytree is my Family too. Could use prayers for this huge leap of faith. Focusing on my kids and being a ‘Grandi’ which i love more than anything.” So Randi must be happy that she is about to be a grandmother for a third time. Patrick and Brittany had announced in July that they are expecting a baby girl, due in early 2025.

In fact, after Brittany posted photos from the gender reveal, Randi had commented, “I can’t wait!! I love y’all and miss yall.” Notably, Randi seems to have been able to instill this sense of priority for family in her children as well. In an episode of The Mom Game Podcast in June, Randi had shed light on Patrick’s mindset of balancing his family and the spotlight. And it surprised fans. The Grim Reaper is already on a record-breaking spree (a 3-peat of Super Bowls). However, Randi revealed, “I hear him, you know, make comments like, If the game takes away from my kids, I might not play as long as Tom Brady, and I’m like, I’m so proud of him for that.”
Interestingly, along the same line, Patrick had said in the past, “I want to be there for my daughter. If I can do that, I’ll continue to play. But if I feel like it’s taking away from my family time, that’s when I’ll know it’s time to go.” Unfortunately, this Christmas Patrick has to face one such situation. Mahomes, how are you going to process that?
