Patrick Mahomes had a close shave with a concussion! Everyone knows what went down in the Dolphins game. Mahomes was speeding towards the endzone, with the ball in his zone. Just when he had run 13 yards, DeShon Elliott clashed with him. Their helmets collided against each other. And a big piece of Mahomes helmet broke off.

Now, days later, we finally have Mahomes’ dad’s reaction to this. Pat Mahomes Sr. was speaking to Starcade Media where he made light of the incident. Not to say that he wasn’t concerned for his son, but he also knew why it had happened.

Mahomes Sr. said that Mahomes Jr.’s helmet breaking was bound to happen. They were playing in sub-zero temperatures; what else could you expect? “It was cold that was the main ingredient,” he said. Then he went on to say that they shouldn’t have played in such extreme temperatures to begin with. “Nobody is meant to be playing in places like that unless you’re a polar bear or something like that.”

But he didn’t dwell on it too long. Instead, he felt grateful to the referees who let him continue playing. The refs actually hadn’t realized the helmet damage until two plays later. After that, they just asked him to get his helmet changed. However, as Mahomes revealed in a presser later, that wasn’t so smooth either.

The spare helmet didn’t fit Mahomes properly

Reporters hounded Patrick Mahomes with questions regarding his helmet. The ever-calm Patrick just smiled and answered. This was after he faced a collision that could have resulted in a concussion. Surprisingly, he wasn’t checked for a concussion after the hit, and neither was he checked after the game was over.

Mahomes told the media that never before in his life had such an incident happened to him. After the officials asked him to get a new helmet, they were in a pickle. There was just one spare one. But as luck would have it, it was also frozen. Moreover, the helmet didn’t even fit his head properly. However, he continued to play with the spare helmet and secured a win for the Chiefs.
