The Chiefs are set to face the Ravens in the AFC championship round. Even Patrick Mahomes considered Lamar Jackson a tough competitor ahead of the matchup and admired him. Jackson and Co. delivered an outstanding performance this season, exalting the Ravens quarterback as a strong contender for the MVP title. Thanks to their incredible performance, the Ravens are also the top seed in the AFC. Evaluating these accomplishments, the 2X MVP Mahomes cannot shy away from showing his worry about the Ravens’ defense.

In a recent pre-game media conference, the reporters asked Mahomes whether he considered Lamar Jackson a top contender. He affirmed, “It’s challenging how he can just be a competitor, score the football obviously and their entire team, which means it’s a tall task. I go out there and play the best football, and if I make any mistakes, it seems like the game is going the other way, so I will play a couple of games down for years now.” Interestingly, in the middle of the discussion, Mahomes emphasized his admiration for Jackson. “But I admired him watching from afar, which can be a great task,” per Mahomes.

He further stated, “I mean, he is MVP for a reason: he leads his team, he scores, he runs, he throws, he does whatever it takes to win, and that’s what the greats do. Like, it’s a great chance for our defense and offense.”

Mahomes admires Jackson for a valid reason. The quarterback reigned over the entire season with his nerve-wracking performance. Jackson shook up the NFL scene with his running prowess and etched his name as an MVP candidate. During the face-off against the 49ers, the champion tactfully took the lead with 45 rushing yards and had very few interceptions.

The elite coach Jim Harbaugh has admired his prowess and even considered him an MVP, much like Mahomes. Per Harbaugh, “It takes a team to create a performance like that, but it takes a player to play at that level to play an MVP level.”

Jackson, too, admires Mahomes. And Mahomes’ words are probably the answer to Jackson’s remark.
