The Mahomes family has been dealing with some tough times of late. Patrick Mahomes’s father was given a jail sentence after pleading guilty to DWI charges and his grandfather has been battling an unspecified health ailment. The Chiefs QB’s mother Randi Mahomes has been constantly asking fans for their prayers for her father and made another such plea before the Chiefs’ Week 4 game against the Chargers.
On the field, things have looked good for Mahomes with the win over the Chargers taking the defending champions to 4-0 for the season. Though Mahomes has been open about the need to improve his own form, it will be a small cause for concern compared to the crisis currently engulfing his family.
As Mahomes took the field at the SoFi stadium, his mother shared a touching snapshot on her Instagram story from the hospital room, where her dad is battling his illness. Yet, she captured the moment with a strong message for her son, knowing the Chargers game was underway. “Game time with my Dad and Mia.” Later she posted another message on X requesting prayers from the fans.

Sharing the same photo from earlier she wrote, “Watching game with daddy today… prayers please for my dad.” In the photo shared by Randi, we see her daughter Mia seated alongside a hospital bed, where Patrick’s grandfather, Randy, is lying facing the television. This was a personal glimpse shared by Randi highlighting the testing times the family is facing at the moment.
Mama Mahomes has been constantly asking fans to pray for her father, though details about his condition are still unclear. On September 13, took to X and posted a concerning message noting, “Prayer warriors please pray for my daddy. He is in the hospital and is not well.. 🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏 his name is Randy.”
She followed it up with another post a week later on Instagram. In her IG story back then she wrote, “This is how I fight my battles. If you are seeing this, take a moment, and PRAY for my dad now.” The story featured a group of singers on a stage with a giant screen behind them carrying the words, “If only I knew back then what I know right now” from the song For My Good (Sped Up) by Maverick City Music.
This would be a challenging time for Randi, who lost her mother Debbie Bates Martin last year in April after a series of health complications. Despite dealing with the tough situation, Mama Mahomes has made sure to keep supporting her QB son. She made it to her eldest son’s birthday celebration on September 17, just a day after Mahomes led the Chiefs to victory over the Bengals. Talk about staying strong through it all, right?
In between all this, Patrick Mahomes’s father Patrick Mahomes Sr. was sentenced to five years probation for a DWI third time or more charge on September 23. He was arrested for a third time over DWI charges in February just days before the Chiefs’ Super Bowl win over the 49ers.
In addition, if Mahomes Sr. were to fail his probation, he could face 10 years in prison. His sentence also requires him to fulfill 160 community service hours, a substance abuse evaluation through the probation department, a life skills course, enrollment in the DWI repeat offender program, and Alcohol Anonymous classes.
During these trying times, the Mahomes clan has the support of each other as Randi Mahomes showed. She cannot stop but cheer for Kansas’ #15 and is like the true example of balancing it all. No wonder Pat is committed to the family as well.

Patrick Mahomes takes the meaning of family from Randi Mahomes
Randi Mahomes, the proud matriarch of the Mahomes clan, is known for sharing her close-knit family moments on social media. Whether it’s cheering for Patrick’s game-winning touchdowns or sharing precious memories with her parents. Randi’s mantra? Family first!
She often features not just Patrick Mahomes but her other children, Jackson and Mia, and of course, her beloved grandkids Sterling and Bronze. But one constant presence on her social feeds has always been her parents. Her love for her dad is clear—remember that Father’s Day post in 2020 where she captioned, “Happy Father’s Day dad!! I love you,” and her recent Easter post with her father? It’s evident that family is at the heart of everything Randi does.

In fact, Randi’s love for her father runs deep. Last August, she even joked about almost getting him to smile in a photo, captioning it, “Almost got daddy to smile!!!” But while Randi’s posts usually beam with joy, her recent updates have been more somber, as her father battles a serious illness. And yet she made sure to switch on the tele and make her dad watch his grandson light up the gridiron. Yes, sir! He’s a baller.
Patrick Mahomes has clearly inherited his family-first mindset from his mom, Randi. He’s even said that if football ever pulled him away from his kids, he wouldn’t play as long as Tom Brady. That strong sense of family is something Randi taught him from day one. It’s easy to see why he’s proud of his roots. But with his granddad battling health issues, it’s not just Patrick’s faith being tested, but the whole Mahomes family. Let’s all keep them in our prayers for a speedy recovery.
