Tyreek Hill joined the Kansas City Chiefs in 2016 as his NFL debut team. A couple of years down the line, he won a Super Bowl with Patrick Mahomes in 2020. Yet, things haven’t always been sunny at the Kansas City Chiefs though. They had what Hill deemed as a “really rough streak” that pushed the Chiefs QB to really get cracking.
Tyreek Hill recalls the “calling out” moment with Patrick Mahomes
Towards the end of the Pivot Podcast, Ryan Clark steered the conversation back to July 2022 when the WR said that Tua Tagovailoa was the most accurate QB he has played with. Hill was already playing for the Miami Dolphins by that time. When asked about why he chose the Dolphins over the New York Jets while on ESPN’s First Take, he had then said, “(Jets quarterback) Zach Wilson is a dog, but I’d rather play with the most accurate quarterback in the NFL.”

The Cheetah had then further elaborated, “I mean obviously, Tua, he’s not your typical gunslinger, but if you were to just pay attention to his game, everything is spot on, everything is pinpoint. Ya know, ball is on time. His fundamentals are on point … Tua, he’s a (expletive) heck of a competitor. He’s a hell of a hard worker.”
Fast forward to recent times and drawing on Hill’s unwavering faith in Tua, host Clark pointed out how accuracy isn’t the only benchmark to judge a QB. Clark wanted Hill to recall his locker room moments with Mahomes, as the host pointed out how the Chiefs QB might just become the greatest QB in the history of the game.
In response, about Tua, Hill clarified that the Dolphins QB had the best season of his career this year and dubbed him as “fearless.” He elaborated how Tua has the potential to become like Brady or Aaron Rodgers given that he has the right weapons around him. But Mahomes is a different breed of QB, and Hill explained how.
There was a time when the Chiefs were on a losing streak and even Travis Kelce was not performing well along with other offensive stars of the then-Chiefs team. The QB had called out all his best players. What they probably didn’t know was that their QB was about to blow a fuse. Hill recalled,
“This was on a Tuesday I believe; he called the whole offense up. He cussed all of us the f**** out, like me and Pat we go back and forth. But that was the moment right there where he stood on business, and I was like bro I really respect this m***** f***** because he just called out all his f****** weapons.
‘Reek, you think you so f****** fast, but can’t catch the f****** ball. You want to be the best receiver of the game,’ and he was letting me have it. Then he went to Kelce… he went to all of us calling us all out. And at that moment right there, I was like, ‘Yo! This is go time now.’ I don’t know what it put, that fuel in my heart. Like the next game, that’s when we begin to get things rolling.”
While this represents one aspect of their relationship as teammates, Tyreek Hill had once indicated a banter between the two and the fun bond they share, making a mention of TE Travis Kelce in its reference as well.

Tyreek Hill is Pat Mahomes’ “side chick”
In November last year when he was nearly through two seasons with the Dolphins, Tyreek Hill reasoned how Travis Kelce and Mahomes’s bond pushed him to pursue his luck elsewhere. He said that he was never Mahomes’s No. 1 guy on the offensive side of the Chiefs. He later downplayed his comments and admitted that he was just “bulls****ing.” Safe to say, he might have felt less appreciated with Kelce being closer to Mahomes and them sharing a fairly more dependable bond than Hill did with him.
“Pat had Kelce, and I was kinda jealous,” Hill said on the RG3 and The Ones podcast. “I was hurt. Patrick, you ain’t never invite me over to your house like you did Kelce. You always invited Kelce. That’s why we’re here where we at now,” and added, “I never been anybody’s side chick before.”

While Patrick Mahomes and Tyreek Hill are not together in a team anymore, Tua Tagovailoa made sure that Hill is not treated like a “side chick” in Miami Dolphins, keeping him on top of his offensive side.
