This weekend in the NFL is definitely going to be interesting! After defeating the Houston Texans on Saturday, the Kansas City Chiefs are heading towards the AFC Championship. And the team standing against them is their familiar rival, the Buffalo Bills, who defeated the Ravens to be here. So, how is Patrick Mahomes preparing for the battle after his Chiefs lost to the Bills earlier in the regular game this season?
On the January 22 episode of The Drive with Carrington Harrison, the Chiefs’s quarterback, Patrick Mahomes, joined the host. During the discussion, the 29-year-old was asked about his take on Josh Allen’s Bills. To which, the 3x Super Bowl champ expressed, “I feel like we’re very similar, just maybe not in scheme and schematics and stuff like that, but just as far as a lot of guys that have had a lot of success in the NFL and in their careers and a lot of great football players, and it’s not about just one guy.”
Patrick Mahomes emphasized that it’s not just about one standout player like Josh Allen, even though Allen is incredibly talented. But here, Mahomes highlighted success comes from the entire team, with every player committed to performing at their best. In addition, he pointed out that this collective effort is evident on film, and is why their matchups are always competitive, featuring great players and coaches on both sides. So, all in all, Patrick Mahomes thinks it’s going to be a great and competitive game without any doubt.

And having played against Josh Allen 9 times in five years, it almost feels like a divisional rivalry. So, when asked if knowing each other so well is an advantage or challenge for Patrick Mahomes, the QB kept it simple. He said it’s all about playing your best football. Furthermore, Mahomes also acknowledged the familiarity between their teams but emphasized that Allen is always going to fight until the end. Hence, he has extreme respect for him and the Bills. Yet, Mahomes stressed the importance of focusing on his own game, aiming to give his team the much-needed victory.
On the other hand, Josh Allen too thinks somewhat the same. After defeating the Ravens, Allen, in a sideline interview, addressed the Chiefs’s rivalry, by saying, “I can’t tell you [how the rematch will be different]. I just know we’re going to work hard. We’re going to have a heck of a week. Enjoy this one tonight and turn our attention to the Chiefs tomorrow. We know what they are. They’re the perennial of what you want to be in the NFL. Someone’s you’ve got to beat them to get past them.”
Both the quarterbacks respect each other, but also know it’s a do or die situation for them. The Chiefs want to achieve the 3-peat, whereas the Bills want to win their first Super Bowl. The game is indeed thrilling, and it remains to be seen who wins this one! Until then, Patrick Mahomes is keeping his words.
Patrick Mahomes finally broke his silence on controversies!
In the same episode of the podcast, Patrick Mahomes addressed an important debate which stemmed from his win from the Texans. It was claimed by many of the critics that Mahomes tried to draw roughing-the-passer penalties, leading two controversial calls. The same question was popped up by Harrison to Mahomes, for which the QB admitted he quickly realized he overdid it. But he stood by his actions on another play, explaining he was just trying to dodge a hard hit from a charging defensive lineman. Hence, he concluded, “So I’ll try to keep doing that and not take those hits because that’s the smart way to stay in the football game.” This, according to Mahomes, will help him avoid unnecessary hits to keep himself in the game.

In addition, the 3-time Super Bowl champ addressed the controversies of the Chiefs getting advantage by the refs. Keeping himself undistracted, Patrick Mahomes said, “I‘ve kind of learned that no matter what happens during the game, that something’s going to come out about it if you win and you continue to win, so I don’t really pay attention to it.”
Hence, the QB believes that although there were many calls here and there, the main point is there were many other plays done by them which resulted in the outcome of that Saturday game. So, as per him, it’s not about the refs at all!
