Well, well! Like it or not, the Chiefs are once again in the Super Bowl. For the third time in a row, they have been balling like no one else. Was it a tough nail-biter, or were the Chiefs just making it look like that? The fumbles in the game were telling something else. But luckily, Patrick Mahomes & co. were on the ‘winning side’ this Sunday. And the team on the losing side? Josh Allen and Co. Sadly, their 33-year-long wait for the Super Bowl continued.
This game wasn’t the usual ‘Chiefs are winning’ kind of game. Mahomes’s squad started with a lead, but the Bills were on their tail, making sure they caught up fast. And in those high-pressure moments, QB Patrick Mahomes made a fumble. That mistake cost them their lead. When asked about it, he said, “I was trying to pull it to either run or throw the ball. I did it a little too late. It’s hard to put a running back in that position… it hurt us at the moment… they went down and got points… you’ve got to push through.” That was honest. But the luck favored the Chiefs.

Just to set the scene, it was right before the first quarter ended, with just a minute left on the clock. Mahomes tried to sell the fake handoff to Isiah Pacheco on a 2nd-and-2 at Buffalo’s 23-yard line. But Mahomes couldn’t quite lock the ball down, and Bills’ DT Ed Oliver swooped in to recover. That gave Buffalo a brief 3-point lead. But it didn’t do them much good.
And just like that, the minutes kept ticking away, and the scores kept shifting. And once again, Buffalo was left watching as the Chiefs secured their three-peat ticket.
Josh Allen left heartbroken with an unlucky record
“It’s not fun, but to be the champs, you’ve got to beat the champs. And we didn’t do it tonight,” said Josh Allen, as he stood in front of the media. Beating the Chiefs now feels like trying to defeat an unstoppable force. You know it’s just not going to happen. Back in week 12, when the Bills beat them at Highmark, everyone thought they were the underdogs who could take down the defending champs. But now, it’s like it’s just not meant to be. Even if you take the game to the final minute, you can’t bet against the Chiefs.
With this loss, Josh Allen got his name booked on an unlucky record. As ESPN’s Adam Teicher posted, “Mahomes’ 4 wins over Josh Allen are the most for any QB over another in playoff history.” That also made Allen the first QB to be beaten a fourth time.
Not every book wraps up the way you hope. Not every movie gives you that perfect, soul-satisfying climax. And that’s exactly the case with the Bills Mafia on Sunday night. But Chiefs fans? They’ve been getting the ending they’ve dreamed of. Or is it too soon to say that? Because the Eagles are still in the way of their dreams. For Buffalo, the Chiefs were the ones to crush their dreams. And when it came down to it, Josh Allen had just two lines to sum it all up. “Well, they’ve ended a lot of teams’ seasons too. It’s a good squad.”
They’ve certainly taken down a lot of teams. Will they be able to break
Saquon Barkley? Well, that’s the only chapter left for now.ADVERTISEMENT
