Patrick Mahomes says Travis Kelce is like Jerry Rice. Do you agree with this bold comparison?

Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce‘s friendship on and off the field is exemplary. They like to party and vacation together. However, the season is here. And the tight end’s dedication during practice after all these years still amazes the quarterback. This year will be his 12th season in the big league. He started in 2013 and the QB joined him, four years later, in 2017. Since then, their combination on the field has been a problem for the rivals. Ahead of their Super Bowl win this year, Mahomes commended Kelce for his work ethic. He has done it again.

On the 15th of August, the grim reaper praised the TE for the work he puts in during the practice sessions and said, “You see him out there every day at practice. He gets mad when they take him out. He loves working.” The 3-time Super Bowl winner is still putting in the hard work which can make rookies envious of him. But the best impact is, he makes his friend’s job easier. As Mahomes put it, “It makes my job easier as a leader to push other guys. So I can just say look at the Hall of Famer who’s out here practicing harder than anybody.” This insane determination to practice has made Kelce one of the best TEs in the league currently. But Mahomes saved the best for the last.

Comparing Kelce to the greats in NFL, the QB added, “He enjoys the process of being great, not just the top, like winning the Super Bowl. He enjoys the process of working out little details. And that’s what the great ones do. You heard stories like that, about guys like Jerry Rice and guys like that.” His analogy is perfect. Jerry Rice was known to push his body to the limits during the offseason. He did 6 day workouts, which included 5-mile run on a mountain trail followed by weight training in the afternoon. Even during the practice, he kept training till late while other players were gone to their homes. However, when you are competing for a place among the best of all times, you gotta put the work.

During their AFC Championship win against Baltimore Ravens in January 2024, Kelce broke Rice’s record for the most catches in the postseason, making it 156 in 21 games. When the TE broke the record, he immediately shouted, “Shout out to Jerry Rice, baby.” Now we surely know who inspired him to work so hard in practice (It’s Rice). He later equalled Rice’s record of Super Bowls (both have won 3). If Kansas City Chiefs achieve their 3-peat, Kelce would be one up than his idol.

The camaraderie between Mahomes and Kelce is on another level. The QB spilled the beans recently.

Just a few months back, Patrick Regan, Kelce’s longtime barber, had revealed the increasing popularity of his skin fade. He also mentioned that Swift also complimented the haircuts he gave to the TE. But in this offseason, we saw the growing friendship between the popstar and Mahomes family, especially his wife, Brittany. Looks like they teamed up to give a new look to the star player, and it has finally worked.

With a new look and ample drills in the practice, Travis Kelce’s only aim is a 3-peat of Super Bowl, something no one has achieved. If they do it, their names would be imprinted in history. Chiefdom is excited.
