You know that feeling when someone’s success story isn’t just about their glory? That’s exactly what we’re seeing with Patrick Mahomes. Back in 2019, while most 24-year-olds were still figuring out their career paths, our Kansas City Chiefs’ quarterback was already thinking bigger than football. He launched The 15 and The Mahomies Foundation with a simple yet powerful mission: To make children’s lives better. Fast forward to 2025, and here’s something that’ll make you smile.

The foundation just announced a 25% increase in their initiatives. That’s not just a win; that’s a touchdown for humanity!

This Tuesday, 15 and Mahomes dropped some exciting news on their Instagram. “We are proud to support the Systems of Care Initiative (SOCI)! This past weekend, the @15andmahomies Mahomies Foundation helped provide support for scholarships to families in the Parent U program. This is a powerful initiative helping families break the cycle of poverty and create lasting success! ✏️🌟❤️.” So, what’s the vibe here?

The Systems of Care Initiative (SOCI) partnered with the 15 and the Mahomies Foundation to make a meaningful impact. They hosted a scholarship award celebration, expanding early childhood education scholarships to ten more families at the Open Minds Child Development Center in Olathe, Kansas. Plus, with support from the Foundation, they’re enhancing SOCI’s Parent U program. How amazing is that for the community?

These scholarships are a lifeline for working parents, ensuring their children receive the high-quality early education and care they deserve while they build brighter futures for their families,” said Dr. Janice Suzanne Smith, Executive Director of SOCI. “The support from the 15 and the Mahomies Foundation helps empower both generations, creating transformational change in Kansas City,” she added, emphasizing the foundation’s impact.

No doubt, childcare costs are a major struggle for working families in Kansas City. Low-income households spend over 30% of their income on childcare—far above the federal guideline of 7%. SOCI is stepping in to help by partnering with early childhood education centers that support families in need, offering full-day, full-year scholarships.

Thanks to Patrick Mahomes’s Foundation and other supporters, SOCI plans to increase scholarships from 80 to 100 by 2025. This expansion will directly support families who otherwise can’t afford quality early education. Additionally, SOCI aims to boost kindergarten readiness rates among scholarship recipients—past recipients have already shown a 39% improvement in preparedness.

Is Mahomes' foundation the real MVP for Kansas City families struggling with childcare costs?

The funding from the 15 and the Mahomies Foundation will also launch a new Parent U session in 2025, equipping more families with tools to break the cycle of poverty and build sustainable success. SOCI’s comprehensive approach supports not only children but also teachers and parents, ensuring families receive stable, high-quality education.
