Is Patrick Mahomes really just Daniel Jones with a better defense? Chiefs fans, what do you think?

The Kansas City Chiefs are on a 5-game win streak without the magic of Patrick Mahomes. It seems fishy, doesn’t it? The Chiefs’ offense has been dinking and dunking, finding their way into the end zone one way or another, thanks to the genius of Andy Reid. It’s as if the head coach assembled a team of Avengers after the injuries to Rashee Rice, Isaiah Pacheco, and Hollywood Brown.

Mahomes threw for 331 yards against the Saints, but none of those passes resulted in a touchdown. For any Chiefs fan, that’s concerning to watch. However, for Rob Parker of The Odd Couple podcast, Mahomes is playing like Daniel Jones. Shocking, right? There’s a method to Parker’s madness, and he went on to explain why he would even compare the three-time Super Bowl winner to a lower-tier quarterback.

“I’m not talking about lifetime achievements or anything like that,” Parker said. “When I look at Patrick Mahomes and his play, I think of Daniel Jones with a great defense. That’s what Patrick Mahomes has turned into. I know people don’t want to believe it and say, ‘Oh Rob, you’re being over dramatic or dissing Patrick Mahomes.’ I’m not talking about legacy and career.”

Parker, who also spearheads Detroit’s first all-black led radio show, Sports Rap Radio on AM 1270, was quick to refer to the stats that Daniel Jones and Patrick Mahomes have put out so far. Just to get an idea, Daniel Jones has thrown for 1,138 yards, 6 touchdowns and three picks this season. Mahomes is awfully like what Daniel Jones has been doing. The Kansas City Chiefs quarterback has 1,235 yards, 6 touchdowns and 6 picks this season.

“Mahomes averages 263.6 total yards, he has 6 touchdowns and 6 interceptions in 5 games, with a passer rating of 88.9. Daniel Jones averages 249.2 total yards. He has 6 touchdowns which matches Patrick Mahomes, and he only has three interceptions, three less than Patrick Mahomes and his [Daniel Jones’] quarterback rating is 86.3. There ain’t much separation. Patrick Mahomes is Daniel Jones with a great defense,” Rob Parker said on The Odd Couple with Rob Parker and Kelvin Washington.

Why is the Kansas City Chief offense struggling so badly?

Well, football is a team sport, and we’d like to forget about Patrick Mahomes’ stats for a minute here. Let’s got back to the AFC Championship game against the Baltimore Ravens. The Chiefs never scored after in the second half. Isn’t that sort of concerning? Their offense can’t pierce through elite defense, or so it seems.

The Chiefs won the Super Bowl, but their offensive woes carried on to the 2024 season. The KC team ranked 11 overall in terms of scoring this year, while Baltimore Ravens are on the top of the leaderboard. However, part of the problem is the players that they have been losing. Rice, Pacheco, and Hollywood Brown were the pivotal part of their offense and they’re gone now.

The Chiefs won against the Atlanta Falcons in the week 3 game, but Mahomes-Kelce’s connection remained nearly non-existent. The TE had 4 receptions over 30 yards in that game. In fact, the Chiefs tight end has yet to score this season. And this was the duo that broke Tom Brady and Rob Gronkowski’s playoff touchdown records in the last season.

“It feels like Kansas City’s offense is out whack,” is what Marcus Spears aka Swagu said about the dwindling Chiefs offense and Mahomes’ connection with Travis Kelce. The Chiefs were aggressively using multiple tight ends on the field, and they also happened to be in a rebuild mode, trying to find their new identity. It might take some time for them to be back at their old selves again.

Well, football is a team sport, so let’s forget about Patrick Mahomes’ stats for a minute. Let’s go back to the AFC Championship game against the Baltimore Ravens. The Chiefs didn’t score at all in the second half. Isn’t that somewhat concerning? It seems their offense can’t pierce through elite defenses.
