Is Patrick Mahomes truly the Michael Jordan of our era, or is that title too premature?

Remember earlier this year when Stephen Curry called Patrick Mahomes’ a “fierce competitor with a killer instinct?” Well, seems like the praise mountain has been soaring high. This time, after Derek Jeter, another baseball shortstop Bobby Witt Jr reflected on how the 3x Super Bowl quarterback is an inspiration. Witt Jr. plays for the Chiefs QB’s partly-owned KC Royals. and he had some straight-as-arrow remarks to make.

During a candid discussion in “Diggin’ Deep Podcast,” the 24-year-old MLB player disclosed how back-to-back NFL championship-winning quarterback became one of his greatest sources of motivation. Bobby also revealed that he has been following in his footsteps to add more accolades to his list.

“He’s always himself. He’s never going to try to go out and be Tom Brady. He’s not going to go out and try to be someone else. He’s just Patrick Mahomes. He’s going out there both on and off the field, just leading by example. He just shows me, like, if I can just go out there, like you were saying earlier, be Bobby Witt Jr, do my work, prepare each and every day, hopefully, I can kind of follow his footsteps,” Bobby Witt Jr. stated, showing his greatest regard for NFL player.

If these words weren’t enough of a compliment to Mahomes’ caliber and demeanor, Bobby Jr’s dad had an even more astonishing revelation to make. The ex-MLB pitcher, Bobby Witt Sr said, “Mahomes, to my son, is going to be like what Michael Jordan was to me, you know what I mean? The best player, winning championships left and right.

During the podcast, Bobby Witt Jr. also recalled a comment from Mahomes, being humbled by the QB’s praises. “He was talking about, oh, who do you think the best shortstop is, and he mentioned me, so this gives me the motivation to try to be the best shortstop I can possibly be, just from him saying that, just really trusting me.”

Further divulging his outlook on Mahomes, Bobby also addressed him as his boss in a humorous way, hinting at the football star’s part ownership of the Kansas City Baseball team. “He’s also my boss, in a way, too, which is kind of funny, showing you the way I’ve been exposed to him.” However, Bobby Witt Jr is not the one who has been greatly influenced by the NFL QB. The ex-New York Yankees shortstop, Derek Jeter, also applauded Patrick Mahomes.

Back in August, during an interview, Jeter ex-CEO of the Miami Marlins who himself led the Yankees to five championships, adored the NFL MVP player’s spectacular captaincy skills.  “He cares about winning.”

Not only this, ex-Yankees even could not stop himself from speaking about  Mahomes’ great approach on the field. A moment later, he described how Mahomes’ right approach of being there, playing every day, and being accountable to the team keeps them going ahead.

Undoubtedly, with his great dominance on the field, Mahomes led the Chiefs to back-to-back Super Bowl triumphs. Just like NFL experts, MLB players also noticed his determination.

So, Jeter, also valued Mahomes’ passion for triumph over personal accolades in his name. The former baseball executive also admired Mahomes’ dedication to establishing a great team culture, which he passed on to the rest of the organization.

“I think his teammates can count on it. But everything that comes out of his mouth is always about wins, not anything personal. And I think that rubs off on the rest of your organization, not just your teammates but the whole organization,” Jeter further remarked.

Clearly, receiving appreciation from MLB players is a significant milestone for Mahomes. And, with his season-opening victory, he is on track to achieve the ambitious three-peat with the Chiefs this season.
