In the world of sports media, Pat McAfee is no stranger to controversy. From his unapologetically candid takes on ESPN to his unfiltered commentary on “The Pat McAfee Show,” he’s built a reputation for speaking his mind, no matter the fallout. Remember that time he called out Caitlin Clark with a less-than-flattering descriptor? Yeah, subtlety has never been his strong suit. But looks like things are turning out a bit darker now.

On Wednesday, McAfee hopped on to his official Instagram handle and shared a shocking incident with his fans. He shared a story, which was a screenshot of an IG dm of a random person who was directing offensive remarks at him. The worst part? Well, the stranger didn’t just target McAfee with abusive language. In fact, the guy threatened his little daughter. Sounds horrible, but it’s true.

To his response, McAfee shared a message, writing, “Good morning beautiful people.. Standard Wednesday over here…just some random wishing death upon me & my daughter.. Hope you all have a great day.” The kicker? Those smiley emojis at the end, show they messed up bad this time. Pat wasn’t the one to let his real emotions come at play here. Let’s be real—McAfee is well-known for some controversies, no doubt about that. However, such negative remarks about his one-year-old daughter seem pretty odd, isn’t it?

But one thing’s certain: these negative remarks could be a part of certain controversies surrounding him. Most notably? Well, a few days ago, the sports analyst found himself amidst legal troubles after his defamation claims on his show. You see, the 37-year-old, along with former NFL player Antonio Brown, indirectly but suggestively addressed a viral rumor on the internet about an Ole Miss student, Mary Kate Cornett.

Following that, McAfee was sued by the student’s parents for false allegations. Cornett’s father publicly denounced McAfee and Browns for producing “Utter and complete lies.” Since then, calls for firing McAfee from ESPN are growing on the internet. Well, it’s safe to say that McAfee’s unfiltered, no-holds-barred approach to sports media often brings the controversies at his doorstep. Because, that’s not the only time he has found himself under hot water lately.

Pat McAfee publicly torched the neighboring country

If 2025 had a face, Pat McAfee must be side-eyeing it right about now. Because, let’s be real—the guy has been in the spotlight for controversies more than the Eagles were after their Super Bowl parade. Recently, during the WWE Elimination Chamber event on Saturday night in Toronto, the U.S. National Anthem was booed by the Canadians. The catch?

Well, right after that, McAfee called Canada a “Terrible Country.” “This is the most stacked Elimination Chamber that the WWE has ever had,” McAfee said on the pay-per-view broadcast. “Kinda sucks that it’s in the terrible country of Canada that booed our national anthem to start this entire thing.” However, the sports analyst did his best to brush off the controversy on his show.

Is Pat McAfee's unfiltered style a breath of fresh air or a ticking time bomb?

Have an interesting take?

“I’m very proud and thankful that I’m from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania in the United States of America. Canadians have a lot of passion for their country and I understand it.. you booed our country and I said you’re terrible.. Let’s shake hands and move along,” he shared on his official ‘X’ handle. Well, if you are thinking that Pat McAfee was ready to settle things down—think again.

Because, that statement didn’t stop him from justifying his remarks. In fact, the guy still stands by it. “Now, Canada, listen, there’s been some things said to me from Canadians that I guess I respect because of the passion that you have for your country — which I hope you understand that I was showing the same for mine,” McAfee said on the show. “You booed my country… I didn’t say Canadians were terrible. I said your country was. You booed us. I said you were terrible. Let’s shake hands and move along. I still love Canadians… I hope it gets settled.”

But at the end of the day, the controversy hasn’t settled yet. Plus, calls of firing Pat McAfee are constantly growing on the internet after his recent feuds. It’s safe to say that McAfee’s unfiltered approach is not going to earn him fame every time he speaks about something.
