Pat McAfee is not a fan of the wrong questions being thrown at Ja’Marr Chase about his contract! The Cincinnati Bengals leading wide receiver has been the talk of the town ever since he showed an interest in a contract extension. This is fair because, despite the Bengals being eliminated from the season, the wide receiver has earned plaudits with his top-notch performances. But the media seems to aggravate the topic further, and McAfee believes so.

Chase signed a four-year rookie deal in 2021 worth $30.8 million. With the offseason approaching, the WR might receive an extension to his contract, as he is one of the best wide receivers on the team. However, not only Chase but also Tee Higgins is eligible for an extension. While Chase is awaiting a new contract extension, the paparazzi keep him under the glare when they mention Higgins in the discussion, which teases McAfee. But what was the question?

The media enraged McAfee!

In the latest episode of “The Pat McAfee Show,” the former punter discussed how Ja’Maar Chase got awkward when reporters asked him about contract expectations. In one snippet, he opened a video of Chase, where reporters began asking him about the contract. Initially, he was unwilling to reveal the numbers as he believed reporters were “going too far,” but later on, when they asked if he would demand less for bringing Higgins, he regarded it as a good question and said, “It depends on how much I’m taking.” It depends on how much Chase is willing to take a cut. Higgins is in the final year of his rookie contract and will be a free agent in March.

Interestingly, McAfee loves how Chase answered this question tactfully, but later on, he seemed taunted by reporters’ ridiculous questions. He said, “They’re setting him up for bad leverage too in his negotiation; I mean, they set him up to be a bad guy, a bad teammate, a bad friend, and also bad leverage business-wise. It was like, ‘How is that anywhere near acceptable in that locker room?’” What disappointed the sports analyst the most was that this sort of conversation was unsuitable in the locker room. This “bad narrative” could create hurdles for Chase in the long run. Surprisingly, Chase wants Justin Jefferson to get the extension first.

Chase wants to sign an extension after Jefferson

Wide receiver Justin Jefferson will grab a hefty contract and an enormous deal. The prime reason behind this is his jaw-dropping performance since locking in the four-year contract for $13.12 million.

Furthermore, the two players shook up the NFL with their stunning performances. Chase has an incredible record of 1,000+ yards, while Jefferson completed 882 yards. This proves that both players are masters of their craft. Surprisingly, Chase and Jefferson were friends before joining the NFL during their LSU days. This is probably why Chase doesn’t shy away from speaking out loud. What are your thoughts on Chase’s jaw-dropping response? Share your insights below!
