That’s a victory that will fit in every basketball lover’s mind! March Madness has begun, and on Thursday, we saw something incredible unfolding in front of our eyes. #11 Drake Bulldogs made a spectacular 10-point win over #6 Missouri Tigers, which compelled many to praise the winningest team. And of course, how could Pat McAfee leave behind in commenting on the basketball game?
A few days ago, Pat McAfee voiced his displeasure with the NCAA’s decision to leave West Virginia University’s men’s basketball team out of the 2025 tournament. His frustration said it all when he took to X to write: “WVU GOT SCREWED.” Still, as he comes to terms with the NCAA decision, the former NFL punter thoroughly enjoyed the first-round games.
On the win of #11 Drake, Pat McAfee again took to his X and honored the team with his five-word reaction. He expressed, “What a performance by Drake… just a SOUND comfortable 11 over 6 seed win.” Indeed, the team performed better at stalling and taking their chances wisely.

Drake’s defense was nothing short of dominant. The Bulldogs just took down Missouri and made history in the process. How? Well, this 67-57 win wasn’t just an upset. It was Drake’s first NCAA tournament victory in over 50 years! Isn’t it impressive? That reason enthralled Pat McAfee, who couldn’t hold back his emotions, and praised the team for their victory.
If we talk about the game, the No. 11 seed Bulldogs stepped up big at INTRUST Bank Arena in Wichita, Kansas. Missouri struggled to find answers, managing only 23 first-half points – their lowest of the season. Drake’s defense locked in, allowing just seven field goals in the first 20 minutes. At one point, the Bulldogs went nearly seven minutes, giving up only two layups while stretching their lead to double digits.
It’s not like #11 Drake hasn’t been here before. They have made four of the last five NCAA tournaments. But of course, this win meant everything. Now, they head to the second round with chests pumped up, preparing to battle #3 Texas Tech. And with that, Pat McAfee is also ready for the upcoming games, as earlier he revealed his plans for March Madness – “It’s going well.. everybody’s bets are just fine.”
What’s your perspective on:
Drake's historic win: A fluke or the start of a Cinderella story in March Madness?
Have an interesting take?
Yes! Everybody has picked their favorites, including the Kansas City Chiefs’s tight end, Travis Kelce!
Pat McAfee’s team couldn’t make it; but how about Travis Kelce?
As mentioned earlier, despite West Virginia securing six Quad 1 wins and Indiana earning four, both teams were left out of the 2025 NCAA tournament. Pat McAfee, caught off guard, didn’t hold back his disappointment while addressing his audience. But at this point, there’s nothing the Indianapolis Colts’s ex-player can do – except pick a new team to root for.

Like Pat McAfee, Travis Kelce’s alma mater Cincinnati didn’t make the field this year. But on the brighter side, he has already chosen his new team to cheer on them. The TE revealed it in this week’s episode of the New Heights podcast.

He expressed, “The West has one of my favorite teams in the NCAA right now, and that’s Drake. Drake University, they have a fun story. Their coach and four of their players are from Division II. They got some guys that could play, although I think Missouri is a really good team, and that’s going to be a tough game for them. That’s like my Cinderella team this year. I’m rooting for them.”
So, Drake’s the one team catching wider attention this time, especially from the NFL community. But which one are you rooting for? Is it Drake-like Kelce and Pat McAfee? Or something else?
Have something to say?
