Jordan Love and the Green Bay Packers have come far ahead ever since Aaron Rodgers exited from the team. While Rodgers played a crucial role in shaping Love for the Packers, it was the rookie QB who managed to grab the hope and belief of his team due to his relentless efforts. His teammate, the Packers RB AJ Dillon attested to Love’s football IQ and hard work.
He recalled the time when Jordan Love went against Patrick Mahomes in his third game as a rookie, resetting everyone’s outlook on him. Dillon highlighted how the game and a specific play ensured that the RB and QB would have a stable understanding with quick movements.
In the video, the RB described how Jordan Love stood on business in Aaron Rodgers absence during COVID times. That was the first chance the RB got to develop his chemistry with the QB. “We got a great friendship, started before we became teammates. Came a long way,” admitted Dillon on Thanalysis Show hosted by Milwaukee Bucks forward Thanasis Antetokounmpo.

“We’re backed up in the end zone and I just run this little like swing route off to the right, I think or maybe a flat and you can hear me on the TV clapping I’m like I’m clapping, I’m clapping at him I’m like, ‘hey, like give me the ball I’m open,’ and yeah I see stuff breaking down just give it to me ended up getting the first down,” remembered the RB.
The game happened in early November 2021 when the Packers lost 13-7 to Patrick Mahomes’ Kansas City team. Love had 190 yards and a touchdown in that game and he also played a total of 6 games in that season. The chemistry that AJ Dillon speaks of dates further back than expected. Though Dillon played at Boston College and Love at Utah State, at one point, the QB and the RB used to be roommates in Orange County.
The duo wants the best for each other both on and off the field as the Packers RB mentioned that he wanted to help Jordan Love win a Super Bowl Championship. “Jordan Love, he’s one of my good friends,” Dillon said. “I’ve seen his whole process. For me, I want to be there with him, help him out. I want to help go get that ring.” The RB further added, “It’s awesome. I want to be part of it, to be able to experience that with one of my best friends on and off the field.”
A lot has changed since Rodgers left the QB position in Love’s hand, with the young quarterback owning up to his position and creating honorable opportunities for the side.

The Green Bay Packers QB has been following the right path as he delivered identical numbers to that of Patrick Mahomes in his 2023 season. Last year, the Packers QB produced 4,159 yards, 32 touchdowns and 11 interceptions. His passer rating added up to be 62.1 in the last season. These numbers are awfully similar to Pat Mahomes, who stacked up 4,183 yards, 27 touchdowns and 14 interceptions.
While his own numbers showed great progress, even the Packers’ offense showed up with staggering role in the entry of the team into the playoffs. A comparison of offensive ranking of the 2022 season and 2023 season will align everything in perspective. Despite Aaron Rodgers playing the whole 2022 season with the Packers, the team’s offense ranked at 17th position.
But after Rodgers left and Love took the reins, the offense improved by a mile and the team ranked 11th in ESPN’s list of NFL Team Total Offense Regular Season Stats 2023. This dramatic improvement was the sign that the Packers’ need to trust Jordan Love, to do better paid off well.
