Packers’ Jordan Love Ditches Patrick Mahomes for Aaron Rodgers & Others as He Builds His Ultimate QB

Quarterback is the most important position on the gridiron. Looks like the Green Bay Packers have found one for many years to come. Jordan Love was the 26th overall pick of the franchise in the first round of the 2020 draft. After 4 seasons in the league, he is being touted as the next star of Packers.

On July 20, 2024, when asked by G.O.A.T Farm Sports to make his perfect QB, Love attributed 4 athletes. He included the arm of Josh Allen (No. 3 on the Top 10 List), Matthew Stafford‘s accuracy (ranked No. 5), the IQ of Aaron Rodgers (ranked 8th), and Lamar Jackson’s legs (4th on the list). Surprisingly, he did not include the No. 1 Patrick Mahomes. Jordan Love failed to find a spot in ESPN’s list of Top 10 QBs but was featured in ‘Honorable Mentions’.

The QB didn’t play any games in his rookie season. He played 6 games in 2021 and 7 in 2022 but could not make much impact. However, after Aaron Rodgers was traded to New York Jets, he got his chance and started in all 17 games. He finished the season with 7th most passing yards (4,159) and 2nd most passing TDS (32). Appreciating QB’s performances, Packers coach Matt LaFleur said, “He had a hell of a year. I think he’s a guy that has continued to get better and better each and every day in practice.” He has become the hot property of the league. Claiming that only Patrick Mahomes is better than Love in the league, ESPN analyst Mike Tannenbaum called him an IPO, saying “Investing in Love is like buying Nvidia three years ago.” Plaxico Burress predicted the QB as the next great quarterback in league on The Carton Show Podcast on July 19, 2024. He said, “He had the opportunity to sit behind Aaron Rodgers for those four or five years, and this man is in prime-time mode for the next decade. Not every quarterback comes into this league ready

Packers GM Brian Gutekunst is impressed with Love since he watched him in 2022. Gutekunst had said then that he was ready to play, “He definitely needs to play. Not every quarterback comes into this league ready to go out there and play. I think he needed a little time, but over the last year and a half or so, we’ve seen that’s the next step in his progression.” But 2023 season performance has propelled him into limelight.

While talking to Thanasis Antetokounmpo on the Thanalysis Show podcast in March 2024, Love revealed that he has a good relationship with Rodgers and he doesn’t mind comparisons. When asked about comparisons with Patrick Mahomes on ‘Move the Sticks‘ podcast, he said that his arm strength, throwing power, and playmaking ability is similar to the No.1 QB. Cheeseheads must be hoping for the QB to win Lombardi Trophy sooner than later.
