With Lloyd and Dillard back, are the Packers finally Super Bowl contenders this season?

With Green Bay Packers set to travel to Brazil to take on the Philadelphia Eagles next week. Good news is coming out of the Packers training camp after recent injuries to some of their key players. The Packers’ preseason games against the Browns and Broncos saw two of their players getting sidelined.

However, with the highly anticipated Brazil trip on the cards, the Packers were treated with an injury boost. As reported by Ryan Wood, “Everyone on 53-man roster accounted for. RB MarShawn Lloyd (hamstring) and OT Andre Dillard (shoulder) are in pads.” Well, it seems like a huge relief as rookie RB MarShawn Lloyd had been absent from the Packers’ practice since getting his hamstring injured against the Browns during the preseason opener.

At the same time, left tackle Dillard picked up a shoulder injury after playing just 14 snaps against the Broncos. With none of them appearing in the preseason game against the Ravens, they have made their comeback before the historic game in Brazil. Looking back at the history of the NFL, this would be the first time franchises would be locking horns on South American soil.

Even though both sets of fans were initially excited after the NFL announced its expansion into Brazil. At present, the excitement surrounding the match-up might not resonate with the same feeling. Slated to take place at Corinthians Arena, this match has gone through its fair share of controversies over a few months.

One of the most recent concerns was surrounding the color green being used to play in the week 1 encounter. Although both teams have traditionally worn green uniforms for their matches, they might not be allowed to do so this time around. As confirmed by the Eagles a few days back, they would be wearing white jerseys with black pants, ditching their home colors.

But this also might not be enough to go ahead and etch history on Brazilian soil, as the game itself is in jeopardy after wildfires have broken out in the adjacent areas.

Green Bay Packers and Philadelphia Eagles clash in Brazil faces uncertain future

In recent days, multiple reports have come out of Brazil, stating almost 30 cities could be affected by devastating wildfires. There has been a significant drop in air quality that could put players’ safety into question. Looking at the NFL’s standard of protecting its players, they have found themselves in a difficult situation on whether to proceed with the match or abandon it.

It could also be rescheduled to another date until the situation comes under control. Offering context behind the deadly wildfires, Brazilian president Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva stated, “No fires caused by lightning were detected. This means that people are setting fires in the Amazon, the Pantanal, and especially the state of Sao Paulo.”

Two people have lost their lives trying to fight the fires. Thus, NFL fans have expressed their concern about the dire circumstances. One fan suggested, “Just make it a Philly home game.” Meanwhile, another fan bashed the NFL by stating, “Beyond ridiculous, an NFL game is being played there.”

Well, it remains to be seen whether the match against the Green Bay Packers and Philadelphia Eagles would proceed accordingly. Or, the game could itself be cancelled, due to widespread protests and controversies surrounding the regular season match.
