So, the Green Bay Packers are shaking things up on the sidelines. And you know, when a team makes a bunch of coaching changes, it means they’re looking to bring in fresh perspectives and new strategies. Seeing how loaded the NFC North is with changes happening everywhere. Matt LaFleur’s Packers are injecting some new football masterminds in his staff to elevate their chances of bringing the Vince Lombardi trophy home after 14 years.
As per longtime Packers reporter Rob Demovsky, Green Bay has added 6 newcomers to their coaching staff. So, who are those news names tasked with handling the Packers’ mounting a Super Bowl run in 2025?
- DeMarcus Covington (defensive line/run game coordinator) – Covington comes into Green Bay having served in multiple roles for the Patriots for eight seasons. He started off as their coaching assistant and then worked his way to earn the defensive coordinator position last year on Jerod Mayo’s staff. Here in Green Bay, he will now be looking to improve their underachieving pass rush, replacing Jason Rebrovich, who was fired last season.
- Luke Getsy (senior assistant) – Getsy already knows a bit or two about coaching in Green Bay. He originally joined the Packers coaching staff as their offensive quality control coach back in 2014. From there, he went on to serve as their WRs and QBs coach while also adding the passing game coordinator in his resume. Now, Getsy comes back to Green Bay after spending time with the Bears and Raiders offense in the last 3 years. Joining LaFleur’s staff, Getsy will work closely as the Packers coach’s probable right hand.
- Cory Harkey (special teams quality control coach) – Harkey gets his special teams gig after serving as the Bills’ assistant special teams coach for the last three seasons. Before his hurrah into NFL coaching, Harkey had experience working as a TE and special teams coordinator for Tennessee State.
- Jeremiah Kolone (offensive assistant) – This will be Kolone’s first coaching job in the NFL after spending a short time with Central Florida as their offensive analyst.
- Jeff Koonz (defensive assistant) – Koonz also directly comes into Green Bay after spending the last five seasons as West Virginia’s special teams’ coordinator. He also looked after the inside linebackers and spent a little time as the Mountaineers‘ DC last season.
- Jamael Lett (defensive quality control coach) – Lett is the final newcomer on LaFleur’s staff for next season. He will be heading the defensive quality control room after serving as a defensive assistant in New England last season.

Apart from the 6 newbies in the Packers coaching staff, there are a few promotions to look out for. LaFleur promoted Sean Mannion from assistant QBs coach to QBs coach, replacing retired Tom Clements. “Going back a year ago and watching how prepared he was then..I think he can help prepare our quarterbacks the same way,” LaFleur said about Mannion’s promotion. Not only Mannion, but LaFleur also gave the LBs coaching room to Sean Duggan, who served as the team’s defensive assistant last season.
While the Packers may have sorted out their coaching staff, there’s still some work left in their offseason activity.

Is Green Bay considering a move for a 5-time Pro Bowl receiver for Jordan Love’s offense?
The Packers are coming off a season where the offense finished within the top 10 for points per game (27.1) and total yards per game (370.8). So, it’s not like their offense had any struggles putting up big scores on the board. However, Jordan Love may still be seeking more help on offense since Christian Watson is out injured. That’s why Pro Football Network linked Amari Cooper, who is still a free agent, with a possible move to the Packers.
What’s your perspective on:
Is Amari Cooper the missing piece for the Packers' offense, or just another risky gamble?
Have an interesting take?
“With Christian Watson’s injury, Green Bay is likely to address the receiver position in some capacity before training camp…Is Cooper still that? Only time will tell, but for a team like the Packers that is in a position to compete for a divisional title, they would be wise to prioritize the upside instead of fearing the downside,” as per PFN. See, Cooper has been a consistent 1,000 receiver for the last five seasons, barring 2024.

Yes, there might be some potential downsides to getting Amari, who posted career-low numbers last season. Still, the Packers could probably get more good out of Cooper if paired with Love. So, the decision lies with the Packers’ front office. Would they like to take their chances on a 5-time Pro Bowler or move on to other targets? Considering Amari Cooper would have a chip on his shoulder to reclaim his usual explosiveness. Still, Packers getting Cooper for Love could end up being the biggest scoop in this year’s offseason. Who says no?
