However, the analyst criticized Campbell’s decision to go for a two-point conversion again after a penalty nullified the first attempt. Wright said, “I thought even after they went for it from the seven and then it was half the distance penalty from the four, they shouldn’t have gone from it but that level of emotional coaching when you’re about to be in your first ever playoff…..it made me have less faith in them and I like Dan but I thought that was an outrageous indefensible decision.”

He found it outrageous and compared it to a coach being upset with a referee’s call and deciding to play without a point after touchdown. Wright felt that such emotional coaching decisions made him lose faith in him, condemning the two-play conversion in the game.

A recap of what happened….

In the last minute of the game, the Lions thought they scored a 2-point conversion that would give them the lead. Quarterback Jared Goff threw to tackle Taylor Decker in the end zone. However, the officials penalized Decker for being an ineligible receiver and Dan Skipper for an illegal formation, overturning the play. The Lions couldn’t convert the 2-point attempt after that, and the Cowboys won 20-19.

The Lions, including head coach Dan Campbell, were visibly furious after this. Furthermore, video evidence also showed that Decker, Skipper, and Penei Sewell had talked to the referee, Allen before the play. Decker claimed he told Allen he was eligible, and Skipper said he didn’t talk to Allen. If Decker was indeed eligible, and Skipper was in the right position, the penalties shouldn’t have been given.

The confusion was made worse when the officials told the Cowboys that the Skipper was reported as eligible, creating a mess for both teams, since the Cowboys had no reason to cover Decker if he wasn’t eligible. As Goff said, that play was indeed “unfortunate” for the Lions.

The Lions will look to end the regular season on a positive note by defeating the Vikings in Week 18.
