Home/NFL

Mike Tomlin’s been with the Pittsburgh Steelers for nearly two decades—arguably the longest-tenured active head coach in the league. But let’s be real—he’s been missing that spark that Steel City is known for. The reason? It’s their quarterback issues. Or to simplify this, you can say that Tomlin and the Steelers are constantly failing to find a true successor for Ben Roethlisberger. And this season was yet another instance of their failure.

Sure, they did find a young QB who could probably lead them to a Super Bowl when they drafted Kenny Pickett back in the 2021 NFL draft. But nah, that neither turned out well for the Steelers nor for Pickett. The result? After just a couple of seasons, Pickett was traded to the Eagles in the 2024 off-season. Now, here’s where things get interesting. Sure, he didn’t get a chance to show his potential for the Eagles, but still, he’s now a Super Bowl QB.

Fun fact: he’s the only QB after Roethlisberger who was a part of the Steelers and has a Super Bowl win—of course, not with the Steel City. Enter the outcast wide receiver, Antonio Brown, who didn’t hold back to take a dig at the head coach. On Thursday, Brown hit up his official ‘X’ handle and shared a picture of Tomlin and Pickett together. The caption? A harsh take. “Congratulations to Mike Tomlin for finally drafting a Super Bowl winning QB.”

Ouch! Looks like the former Steelers’ wideout was waiting to tweet this. You see, when the Steelers drafted Pickett back in 2021 NFL draft, he wasn’t the first choice of Mike Tomlin. He was named a backup QB behind Mitchell Trubisky, who arguably had a couple of embarrassing seasons with the Steelers as well.

Fast forward to Pickett’s second season, and yeah… he’d probably love to hit the delete button on that one. The 26-year-old QB finished his sophomore season with the lowest touchdown percentage among all starting QBs—with just six touchdowns against his name. Later? The Steelers traded him in the 2024 offseason to the Eagles. A trade that Pickett is probably thankful for, as he’s now a Super Bowl champ.

Now you can see that Tomlin basically relied on veteran quarterbacks during his tenure. When he took the helm for the Steelers, Roethlisberger has already established himself as a starting QB. Not to mention that Roethlisberger led the team to the Super Bowl glory in Tomlin’s second season. But, what after that?

Tomlin and Big Ben basically locked in and built an era. Year after year, they kept the Steelers in the mix, stacking up playoff runs and made sure Steel City stayed a powerhouse. Then came the end of Big Ben’s era and since then, the head coach is struggling to make a successful run. The Steelers are struggling to get past the wild card round—having lost six of their last postseason games.

What’s your perspective on:

Steelers fans, is it time to trade Mike Tomlin or stick with him for another season?

Have an interesting take?

So yeah, the QB concerns aren’t just for this season whether they will go ahead with Russell Wilson or Justin Fields. Mike Tomlin and crew are looking for an answer to their struggling QB position for years.

Speaking of which, the organization has yet to make a decision on Russell Wilson. On one side, there are reports that the Steelers are all set to move on from ‘dangeruss’ Wilson. On the other hand, the nine-time pro-bowler is constantly indicating his desire to play another season with the Steelers. All in all, Steel City has a lot to figure out in this offseason for their QB concerns. Once Again!

Pittsburgh: Trade Mike Tomlin or sell the team

What did this season bring for the Pittsburgh Steelers? A bunch of demands. No, not the Super Bowl demand—it was actually at the beginning of the regular season. After their five consecutive losses, the fans are demanding a few things. The latest one? It’s Trade Mike Tomlin or sell the team. Yep, you read that right. A few days ago, Barstool Sports’ Kevin Adams, put a billboard in Pittsburgh with a eye-catching demand from the Steeles’ president and owner, Art Rooney II.

The sign read, “The standard is mediocrity. Trade Tomlin or sell the team, Rooney! We’ve had enough.” And if you’re thinking that’s it—think again. Because, Adams didn’t just put a billboard, he made a public statement. “You don’t have to like me or the way I choose to celebrate the Steelers,” Adams posted on X. “But I’ll always stand on what I believe in, and I put my money where my mouth is. Will change happen because of this? No. But it won’t stop me from letting our voices be heard.”

The frustration is real folks. The Steelers haven’t won a playoff game since 2017 and their demand is pretty simple. Sure, the head coach has an impeccable regular season track record, but if he’s been stacking some Super Bowls or least—the conference championships, then his longest-tenure as an HC is justifiable. But? He just has one Super Bowl under his resume and y’all already know his postseason record.

On top of that, Art Rooney II is in no mood to part ways with his head coach. Now, that’s kinda pouring gasoline on the fire. “When you have a good coach, you just try to keep building with them,” that’s what Rooney had said about Mike Tomlin. This, understandably, doesn’t sit well with fans.
