It’s been roughly three weeks since the start of the free agency. But still, the Pittsburgh Steelers are stuck in limbo to find their next signal-caller. Their top choice? For the time being, it’s Aaron Rodgers. Did they sign him? Absolutely not. Because the 41-year-old QB is kinda ghosting them. The Steelers are waiting. The entire NFL world is waiting. And where’s Aaron Rodgers? Not in Pittsburgh, not at some high-stakes meeting—nope.

In fact, the man has jetted off to another country while everyone holds their breath. No, we aren’t making that up. On Monday, sports media personality Dov Kleiman hopped onto his official ‘X’ handle and shared a clip of Rodgers spotted in Tijuana. Oh yeah, Rodgers is out there in Mexico, probably taking some time off from this offseason drama. “Free agent QB Aaron Rodgers was recently spotted leaving a hotel in Tijuana 👀🤔,” Kleiman wrote in his post.

Well, the Steelers are sitting tight while waiting for Rodgers to make up his mind. But let’s be honest for a tiny moment—Rodgers is out there playing a waiting game with Pittsburgh, and there’s no doubt about that. But the Steelers are still stuck in their QB conundrum. Earlier, they’re reportedly going to sign either Russell Wilson or Justin Fields.

Now that both of them have packed their bags to leave for New York, with the former signed a one-year deal with the Giants and the latter signed a two-year deal with the Jets, the Steelers‘ QB room looks like a game of musical chairs. They’ve brought back Mason Rudolph on a two-year $8 million deal and signed Skylar Thompson on a reserve/future contract. But let’s not kid ourselves—they’re not your top contenders for the QB1 role.

In fact, the Steelers Nation is hoping for a veteran QB to swoop in and save the day. Could Rodgers be that veteran QB? Well, after the Vikings ditched him, it seemed like he’s the guy, considering he arranged a meeting with the coaches and owners alike while visiting the Steelers’ facility. But there’s still no deal finalized. To top that off, the man’s now flown off to Tijuana amidst this QB carousel.

That means only one thing: there’s no conclusion on this Rodgers-Steelers saga—nope, not so soon—unless there’s a deadline for the 41-year-old QB.

Mike Tomlin and the Steelers have no deadline for Aaron Rodgers

Let’s rewind to less than a couple of weeks ago when Aaron Rodgers visited the Steelers’ facility. Correction: as per the NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero, the meeting was set by Rodgers and not the Steelers. At first, it seemed like the Steelers and Rodgers were finalizing a deal. However, the visit turned out to be a six-hour meeting with the coaches and owners, where both parties reviewed game footage and discussed Rodgers’ aspirations and values as a player.

Fast forward to now and while everyone’s literally waiting for Rodgers to either sign a deal or consider calling it a clear—there’s just no update on any of these decisions. To make things ever spicier, when Tomlin was asked if the Steelers were considering an internal deadline to sign or pass on Rodgers, the head coach straight-up declined any such speculations.

“Not to my knowledge,” Tomlin said, per ESPN. “I don’t know that we’ve approached it from a deadline perspective. Certainly, as I mentioned, you’d like to have settled circumstances, but deadlines don’t often bring that to a head.” On top of that, Tomlin addressed his meeting with Rodgers when the 41-year-old QB visited the Steelers’ facility.

“It’s been reported that he spent a day with us, and it was a really good day,” Tomlin said. “Specifically, he and I obviously have known of each other for some time, and so it was really good to spend some time together, man, and get to know each other more intimately, but it is free agency. It is a process.” The Steelers have no deadline for Rodgers. The QB is out there, not giving a response. Guess the calendar has changed to April, but the Rodgers-Steelers saga hasn’t moved an inch.
