During the offseason last year, the Dallas Cowboys surprised the NFL world with the number of trades they had made. But their signing of Stephon Gilmore to their roster might have been the best transaction. To win Gilmore to their side, they had to trade a fifth-round pick to the Indianapolis Colts. They got a former Defensive Player of the Year, as Cornerback Trevon Diggs’ sidelining in Week 3 made the trade even more crucial.

In the following weeks, Gilmore really shined on the Cowboys’ defense. However, his best performance came in last Sunday’s game against the Philadelphia Eagles. But what was the source of his motivation?

Stephon Gilmore uses a hurting comment as motivation!

On Sunday Night Football, Gilmore was responsible for nine tackles and one forced timely fumble on AJ Brown. His motivation? Just before the game kicked off, Eagles wide receiver AJ Brown called him “old” taking a dig at him being 33 years old. Gilmore didn’t take the insult lightly, even if Brown was just joking with him.“So it lit a fire in me a little bit. I was mad. The only thing I could do was show him I was still here, and I think I did that today.”

He made his biggest play during the Eagles’ first possession of the third quarter. He recovered a fumble from Brown before passing it to his teammate. The defensive coordinator, Damone Clark, had asked the defense to be more aggressive on the ball and now the results were showing.

But can he continue to play at this high level in the upcoming weeks would remain the question for the Cowboys?

The Cowboys have tougher opponents to face

Winning over the Eagles, which made it to the Super Bowl earlier this year, has surely boosted the Cowboys’ confidence. With their recent victory, they are now tied for the division lead and have a shot at being the best team in not just the NFC East division. But to lead in the entire NFC, the Cowboys would require the Eagles to face more than just this one loss.

The going won’t get easier for the Cowboys either, though. In the upcoming week, they will have to face the Buffalo Bills before taking on the Miami Dolphins on Christmas Eve. And next, they will be facing the Detroit Lions. For now, Gilmore is just going to “take it one game at a time,” much like how his team would see it. Can the Cowboys succeed in making their second consecutive playoff appearance? Let us know your thoughts below!
