The 2021-2022 Super Bowl showdown between the Los Angeles Rams and Cincinnati Bengals was a memorable gameplay. Not only did the Rams win by 23-20, but it was their first victory under coach  Sean McVay. Surprisingly, there was another familiar name who contributed to the powerful Rams that season. It was none other than the new Miami Dolphins star, Odell Beckham Jr.

Back in March, the wide receiver was released by the Ravens where he bagged 35 catches for 565 yards and 3 touchdowns in 14 games. This led to OBJ signing with the Dolphins for the upcoming season, reportedly for a one-year deal worth up to $8.25 million. However, it was also rumored that the former Ravens star accepted a far less lucrative deal with the Phins, as he was offered by other teams on the open market.

While many reports and speculations have been made concerning Beckham Jr.’s choice to don the Dolphins jersey, the wide receiver came forth with an honest admission. In a recent episode of the Drive Time podcast, Odell Beckham Jr. shed light on one of the “major” reasons that led him to join eminent football stars like Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle, pointing out similarities between his former coach Sean McVay’s offense and Mike McDaniel’s approach on the field.

The host of the show without any hesitation pointed out how coach Sean McVay and Mike McDaniel have “some conceptual crossover” especially when it comes to the offense. Given OBJ’s successful run with the Rams in 2021, Travis Wingfield asked, “How excited are you to play for Mike McDaniel on this Dolphins offense.”

After revealing that “God” had helped him make the decision, the wide receiver also added, “Very [Excited]. Like I said, it [offense] was the major part of the decision.” The 31-year-old elaborated, “Sitting in the meetings and hearing some of the verbiage and the plays and all that, you could definitely… LA was my favorite place that I had been because of everything that I had been through. And it reminded me how much I loved football. And that’s kind of what this is here. This is strictly football.”

The wide receiver seems ready to get back out on the field after his ACL injury last year, proving his first season with the Dolphins is sure to be interesting. However, with two other WRs already on the team, it is going to be even more “intriguing” to witness how powerful the gameplay will look. Odell Beckham Jr. also unfolded how majestic the offense will look and shed light on coach Mike McDaniel’s unorthodox approach.

Bunch of playmakers and a “semi-personal” mentality is the approach for the Dolphins

The Miami Dolphins and their coach Mike McDaniels are known for their lively yet unorthodox style of football. The recent addition Beckham Jr also pointed out this quality of the HC. He said that while the old quote goes ‘Offense wins games, defense wins championships,’ coach takes it “semi personal to change that statement. You gotta have to outscore us and our defense gonna stop. But, you got to outscore us.”

Additionally, Odell Beckham Jr. also point out how “personnel package” of Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle is the part of the bunch of playmakers who hold the prowess on the field. Calling the offense “dangerous,” he did not forget to highlight the talent he holds. Beckham Jr. said, “Everyone is gonna be worried about them and maybe one everybody forgets about me and then I am catching passes wide open and turning up and going crazy.”

Thus, by bringing this 31-year-old talent to their side, the Dolphins also surely added that pressure on the other teams. The team is taking practice sessions up a notch as the upcoming season nears. It won’t be long before a new offensive plan will be put into action. Like OBJ underlined, “It is always fun to be an offensive player in a high powered offense.”
