The Chicago Bears CB Jaylon Johnson just caught a pick-six from Aaron Rodgers and called him out. But for what? The season hasn’t even started yet. Well, Rodgers was voted No. 92 on the NFL’s Top 100 players list. Interestingly, it was the players who voted this time, and the media wasn’t even involved. Apparently, the decisions haven’t sat well with Jaylon Johnson, who did not hesitate to call out the reasoning behind the same.

Johnson didn’t find himself anywhere close to the top 100 players and didn’t take kindly to it. And that’s precisely why he has a problem with Aaron Rodgers. Despite not playing in the 2023 season, A-Rod found himself in the top 100 list and the Bears CB did not. He made a mockery out of the voting system in a recent presser.

“It’s bulls—,” Johnson said. “There ain’t no way. I don’t know how you make Pro Bowl, All-Pro and you’re not a Top 100 guy. I could’ve been 101 I guess, but goddamn, Aaron Rodgers didn’t even play in the season, and he was voted.” Last year, Johnson recorded 4 interceptions, his career high, and one of them turned out to be a pick six as he took it to the endzone for a 39-yard touchdown.

Well, it is surprising to see Johnson getting left behind indeed. Especially after he made it to the Second-team All-Pro and Pro Bowl in the 2023 season. Surprisingly though, there are only 5 corners in the 2024 top 100 list. Jalen Ramsey (No. 25), DaRon Bland (31), Sauce Gardner (38), Patrick Surtain II (52), and Tariq Woolen (91) were some of the CBs on the 2024 list.

So, why is Aaron Rodgers in there? Apparently, the Jets did a flowery column pointing out what Rodgers had achieved in the last 18 seasons in the NFL. His 2 decade old career is why Rodgers was on the list and not his 2023 performance.

Are the New York Jets trying too hard to push Aaron Rodgers’ name?

A Jets contributor did a column recently pointing out how Rodgers secured No. 92 on the top 100 list. The column talks about how Rodgers missed “majority of last season, knowing well enough that he played just 4 snaps in the regular season before being carted off. Moreover, it points out how the Jets won against the Bills in last year’s season opener, which seems slightly out of context.

Here’s where it gets weird. The column says, “The Jets’ quarterback played for the Packers for 18 seasons before being traded to New York in April 2023,” and that, “Rodgers, a four-time MVP, who was No. 51 in last year’s rankings, has been among the top 10 nine times and top three four times. He was the top-ranked played in the 2012, No. 2 in 2015 and No. 3 in 2020 and 2021.”

This is the statement which might justify Jaylon Johnson’s anger about getting snubbed from the conversation entirely. The article then pointed out the name of the doctor who treated Rodgers and that he was activated in week 16 but didn’t play because the Jets had no hope at that point. Those statements still don’t justify why Rodgers was in the list to begin with, because the voting criteria might have been subjective, i.e., depending on player’s perception.

The column proceeds to point out redundant stats that do not fit the context, trying hard to make a case for his presence in the list. Do you think Jaylon Johnson should have been on the list?
