The NFC South is one of the most hotly contested divisions in all of the NFL right now. All top 3 teams have a chance to get to the playoffs. Amidst this, the Atlanta Falcons’ HC Arthur Smith makes his targets clear. This is a chance to redeem himself if he does manage to take the Falcons to the playoffs.

The Falcons are currently on a 2-game losing streak, with the last one being the most hurtful. As the Falcons perished against the divisional foes, the Carolina Panthers 7-9. This was the Panthers’ only second win in the entire season. But, the Los Angeles Rams gave the Falcons a lifeline and HC Smith wants to grab onto it.

After the disappointing loss against the Panthers, the Falcons owner gave a slimmer of hope for HC Arthur Smith. Owner Arthur Blank said, (He’s) committed to Coach Smith”, but continued by saying, “Let the season play out and go from there”. And Smith’s season got a bit better after the Rams defeated the New Orleans Saints.

The Saints’ defeat means that now the Falcons have a much better opportunity to grab the playoff spot. But HC Smith is focused on what needs to be done and his eyes are on their next target only, the Indianapolis Colts.

“It certainly doesn’t hurt you, but our focus … (is) nothing matters if we don’t beat Indianapolis”, said HC Smith on the fortunate turn of events. But the road ahead is a tough one for Smith and the Falcons if they want a playoff spot.

HC Smith must win back-to-back

Under the leadership of HC Smith, the Falcons haven’t won 3 games in a row this entire season. But to solidify their playoff chances, that is exactly what they must do in their last three remaining games in the regular season.

Currently, they are in the 10th spot to qualify for the playoffs in the NFC, with only 4 spots left. If they do manage to win their game against the Colts, their chances will improve to 16% and a loss would mean only a 4% chance of qualifying.
