The 2023 season has been a staggered one for the Kansas City Chiefs and Travis Kelce. While the TE and the Chiefs made their way into the playoffs after securing the AFC West for the 8th consecutive time, the journey has been anything but smooth sailing with the results that have encompassed the season. To ensure a more comfortable playoff season and, subsequently, to protect and preserve Patrick Mahomes, Andy Reid was quick to address the QB being rested from the last game of the regular season.
However, one may note that the same sentiment was not maintained for Travis Kelce. The TE has managed to edge close to the 1,000-yard mark for the season despite the hiccups the Chiefs have faced. While his performances might not be considered to be at their best, the role of experience played by the star is hard to sideline. Yet, coach Reid showed no enthusiasm for touching upon matters concerning the TE in this case.

While the TE has been one of the best in the league over the years, he has done it under Andy Reid’s tutelage. Kelce will hope to reignite the enthusiasm they both share as he hopes to continue hitting the 1,000-yard milestone. The Chiefs TE will hope to extend the 1,000-yard milestone he established back in 2016 as he faces off against divisional rivals the LA Chargers, just 16 yards short of the 4-digit hit mark. Meanwhile, Andy Reid chose to keep the yardstick conversation to himself in his latest media appearance.
While talking to the press ahead of the Chargers Clash, one of the reporters inquired if Reid had held talks with Kelce over the 1,000-yard mark. Andy Reid responded, “No, nothing is finalized yet, but we’ll see how it all goes; we’ll see how it all works out.” Although the legendary head coach didn’t necessarily show signs of hesitation, his decision to avoid the conversation may suggest a bit of disappointment in light of how the season has transpired for the Tight End.
Kelce has managed to rack up just 5 TDs in the 15 games, which is his worst TD number since 2019. Many factors may have resulted in the decline of his production metrics, but Andy Reid’s stance suggests reservations nonetheless.

Travis Kelce’s unfortunate performance change this season
This season, Pro Bowl tight end Travis Kelce has been performing sub-par in comparison to the standards he has set. In Week 17, he only managed to gain sixteen receiving yards. To make matters worse, he suffered a toe injury, which negatively impacted his game. However, it is no news to anyone how experienced and crucial the player is for the side.

Coach Andy Reid might not have commented about Kelce because he would potentially want the TE to recover well enough to participate in the playoffs without extending the time off-field for himself. Blaine Gabbert, former QB for the team, further backed the fact that if Reid wants to let Kelce rest, then he will rest and recover for the playoffs. What are your thoughts on Andy Reid’s view?
