Reigning Super Bowl Champions are in the market to search for a new wide receiver after their latest blow last weekend. Although the Chiefs have managed to spare any blushes this season with four wins in a row, they haven’t been fortunate in terms of injuries. After suffering a knee injury against the Chargers, rookie WR Rashee Rice is looking towards an extended time on the sidelines.
If not addressed on time, the Chiefs could find themselves desperately short in their receiver room. Amid all the trade rumors that are hitting the news, Davante Adams remains the hottest prospect on the market, considering his production in the NFL. With six Pro Bowler accolades and a strong start to this season, Adams would have been a perfect fit for the Chiefs lineup. However, ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler had other ideas as he recommends 3 WRs that Kansas City could target to bolster their squad.

Well, the first one on his list is Browns WR Amari Cooper, who has a base salary of 1.2 million that could attract the Chiefs to make a move. Although he is slated to hit free agency after this season, the Browns may not be interested in renewing his contract. This could be a huge opportunity for the Chiefs to pounce as Cooper, on a struggling Browns’ side, has racked up 16 receptions with 148 yards. His two touchdowns look even more impressive considering the out-of-sync partnership he bodes with Deshaun Watson. Bringing him to Kansas City might help the 30-year-old find his best form with the likes of Patrick Mahomes leading the line.
Next up is Diontae Johnson of the Panthers, who has found himself to be Andy Dalton’s go-to man. The 36-year-old has targeted Johnson for 27 times during the last two games. His 15 receptions for 205 yards and two TDs is even more exciting as Johnson struggled under Bryce Young. He had no touchdowns with five catches for 34 yards, thereby showing what the right player can do to his capabilities. Well, this could reach greater heights if he finds himself in Kansas City with Mahomes throwing at him.
This leads us to the last choice as per Fowler, who picked DeAndre Hopkins of the Titans to replace Rice in the receiver room. Seeing his production this season, Hopkins may not be a huge boost to the Chief’s lineup. As the 32-year-old is coming off two catches for 31 yards against the Dolphins last week. However, going back to last season, he crossed the 1,000-yard mark that most receivers are expected to do every season. Will the Titans WR work in the Chiefs’ offensive set-up? Well, we don’t know, but if given the right passes, he might surprise us.

Rashee Rice added to the injury reserve ahead of the Saints’ clash
When Patrick Mahomes collided with Rice, it didn’t look like the Chiefs’ WR could be back anytime soon. After being examined on the sidelines, he was eventually carted back into the Chiefs’ locker room. Even Andy Reid said during halftime, “It’s not good,” pointing out the concerns regarding Rice’s injury. As the match finished in the favor of the Chiefs, ESPN’s Adam Schefter gave a concerning update on the rookie WR’s injury, saying there are fears he could have torn his ACL.
However, since that report, there haven’t been any updates on the same. But just before the Saints clash, Rice was placed on the injury reserves, citing a knee injury. This means he would be missing the next four matches for the Chiefs as they prepare without their star receiver. It would be a huge blow for the reigning champions as Rice was on his way to having a breakout season.

His 24 catches for 288 yards and two touchdowns was a huge boost for the Chiefs offense that is struggling amid Travis Kelce’s poor start. However, there were a few positives as he notched up seven catches for 89 yards in Los Angeles last week. With Rice out for a lengthy period, can the Chiefs get their hands on a wide receiver that fits their profile? Or will they have to rely upon Xavier Worthy, Juju Smith-Schuster and Justin Watson? Well, we will see for ourselves as we continue to progress through the rumors.
