In a league full of jaw-dropping talents at every position, hardly anyone comes near to the exceptional quality of Lamar Jackson. The Baltimore Ravens’ highlight playmaker appeared to reinvent the quarterback position in 2019 and kept on validating that impression. Moreover, he made such an impact that his contemporaries – even those on competing squads – cherish and respect him.

Recently, Raiders cornerback Jack Jones made waves when he proclaimed Kansas City Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes as the “greatest quarterback ever to ever play the game.”

But then he went on to break down his analysis “Quarterback is passing, quarterback is running and quarterback is uh facilitating now when you want to talk about running nobody’s better than Lamar Jackson”. Jones’ impressed look expressed volumes, as Lamar’s 5,258 rushing yards and 29 rushing TDs ardently favor him over even standardized rushing QBs like Michael Vick as the premier running QB.

Now, Mahomes is undoubtedly a level to achieve currently in the league. The guy can sling it with the best of them and has the hardware to back it up. But when it comes to pure, unfiltered electricity, rarely does anybody bring the talent in like Lamar Jackson. Jones may have had Mahomes at the top of his list, but the hardcore football fans know that Lamar is in a league of his own.

This guy is capable of leaving defenders grasping at air with his lightning-quick cuts and jaw-dropping speed. And let’s not forget about that cannon of an arm – Lamar can let it fly. Now, while Jones may have been spot-on in his assessment of Lamar Jackson as the best in the rushing business right now, his comments about the GOAT quarterback conversation took an interesting turn. In the process, Jones inadvertently overlooked another QB who revolutionized the position – the one and only Michael Vick.

Lamar Jackson got the juice but so did Vick!

“Michael Vick? I know I know you want to add Vick to the conversation. Vick was great, he’s not Lamar Jackson,” Jones stated emphatically on the Protect The Shield Podcast live stream, acknowledging that Vick does make it to the discussion. But with the recent flow Jackson has been in, it is hard to put him behind his senior.

While Vick revolutionized the QB position as the first to rush for 1,000 yards in a season, Jackson has pushed past his idol’s records. The NFL’s fastest QB to 5,000 rushing yards, Lamar has taken the dual-threat ability Vick pioneered and elevated it to new heights.

Vick’s highlight reel was video game-esque – juking defenders out of their cleats one play, then launching a rocket downfield the next. He was the prototype for mobile QBs. But Jackson’s 15,887 passing yards, 125 passing TDs, 5,258 rushing yards, and 29 rushing TDs through just 5 seasons demonstrate an unparalleled mastery of both skills.

For sheer, electrifying excitement, there’s no one quite like Lamar. His 2019 MVP campaign featured the single-season QB rushing record of 1,206 yards. Just last season, who can forget his 21-yard run emerging from a pile-on 4th down in the AFC Championship game? Jones’ admiration is well-founded – Jackson has forged his legacy as the NFL’s premier dual-threat force
