Does Michael Carter's $33M extension make him the Jets' most valuable player? What do you think?

Good news for the New York Jets and their defensive star, Michael Carter! According to NFL insider, Tom Pelissero, Gang Green recently gave the RB “a three-year, $30.75 million extension that can be worth up to $33M, with slightly over $19M in total guarantees.” This contract extension now made him the highest-paid slot corner in the league. As this is indeed good and joyful news for the player, he recently received a ton of congratulatory messages from the NFL community.

The latest to join in this trend is his teammate, Jets’ DE, Jermaine Johnson II, who wrote “Yessir brother congratulations!!! Much deserved (with a salute and fire emoji)” on his official X account on August 3, 2024. This came after Michael Carter uploaded a tweet writing, “All Glory to God (with a thanking emoji),” after he received the huge contract.

Earlier too, even Chiefs TE Noah Gray shared a post of sports analyst Jordan Schultz, which stated Carter’s $33M contract extension. Sharing the same in his story, Gray wrote, “Huge!!” as he gave a special nod to the running back. Besides them, even Jets WR, Garrett Wilson and CB Sauce Gardner also appeared happy for Michael Carter. Wilson wrote, “Lfg man. Dawg deserve every bit of that” on his official X account. On the other hand, Gardner too shared a story about Carter’s contract on his Instagram, and wrote, “yessirrrr!!!

Michael Carter stood tall for the Jets’ defense, which “finished third in yards allowed in 2023 and second against the pass.” In addition to that, he also gained “a career-high 80.4 PFF grade, including an 83.3 coverage grade, while recording 50 tackles and nine pass breakups.” So, looking at these contributions, it’s easy to tell why the Jets paid him what he deserved.

And now, Carter, who was slated to enter free agency the next year, will remain in the team through the 2027 season, as he has already impressed his head coach.

What did Robert Saleh say about Michael Carter?

On allowing just 32 receptions on 57 targets, Michael Carter was given an 80.4 grade. But what would have made his day even more special was the belief that head coach Robert Saleh has in him. While speaking to the reporters on July 30, Saleh expressed about Carter, “He’s one of our greatest communicators. He’s trustworthy.

In addition to that, Saleh also highlighted Carter’s perfection in the games, by saying, “He’s on his job. His technique is perfect. He wins his one-on-one battles. He’s a big part of this defense.” The coach even titled Carter with a “silent assassin.” Whoa! That’s what every player wants to hear from his coach.

So now, as the Jets are coming off with key players like Aaron Rodgers, Sauce Gardner, and D.J. Reed, having Michael Carter in the slot, the franchise will try to end their 55-year-old Super Bowl drought.
