The Philadelphia Eagles’ season is over now. And many are speculating coach Nick Sirianni’s tenure to be over in the offseason. The results are devastating and a shattered Jalen Hurts has acknowledged the need for “self-reflection” for his entire team. That’s the whole scene going around with the Eagles lately when they lost their wildcard matchup against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

The Bucs hosted the Birds for NFC wildcard playoffs on Monday, January 15, at Raymond James Stadium, Florida. The loss could have been unfortunate for the team if they had lost by a one or two-point margin. But being a drastic 23-point loss, is indeed indigestible for the Eagles and their fans, especially when they started the season with 10-1. And who is to be blamed? Well, the Eagles QB Hurts has an answer!

In a post-game press conference, Jalen Hurts talked about their journey and the recent wildcard loss. However, being a true leader and a gentleman, he took all the responsibility for the loss and acknowledged to start by learning from himself first. But that doesn’t mean he is solely responsible for the loss. Hurts highlighted the team’s struggles in playing well, citing issues with decision-making, execution, and turnovers. He emphasized the need to learn from these experiences and take ownership of mistakes.

Hurts further acknowledged the team’s missed opportunities and stressed the importance of consistency for achieving the desired results. When asked by a reporter about the quarterback’s ‘gruesome’ finger injury being one of the reasons for his inconsistent performance, Hurts simply denied it saying, “There’s no excuse for the inability to do, not to do what we wanted to do out there on the field…..It’s just about the results.” He continued, “We didn’t get the results we wanted. But when you look at the results and say, it’s about really the process and what you go about it. So, that’s just a huge self-reflection for everyone.”

There is no doubt that this is arguably the worst loss the Eagles have suffered in coach Nick Sirianni’s era. Their offensive concerns related to their running, blocking, throwing, tackling, or covering, all created difficulties for the team to push themselves up against the Bucs. According to the fan page of the Eagles on Twitter, “It’s the worst offensive loss in the Sirianni era since…their playoff loss to Tampa in 2021.

By adding, “Going to be an interesting offseason ahead,” they directed toward Sirianni’s future with the Eagles. However, the head coach isn’t worrying about his future with the team, instead, he is empathizing with the team and their loss.

Will Nick Sirianni be fired?

The Eagles’ fans are extremely upset, and so they want the coach Nick Sirianni to be out of the team soon. When asked about his future job concerns, Sirianni simply stated that he is currently not worried about him, instead, he is “thinking about the guys. All the guys in that locker room. Every single one of them has put their heart and soul to this.

While Sirianni may not be worried about his coaching future with the team, the real question is whether he needs to consider it soon. According to the reports, owner Jeffrey Lurie might make a decision soon on the coach and his future.

After leading the Eagles to the playoffs thrice in all his Eagles’ seasons, Sirianni achieved a solid record and even guided them to a Super Bowl last year. The dilemma for Lurie lies in the balance between continuity and recent setbacks, including a playoff absence and a poor end to the regular season.

While sticking with Sirianni could provide organizational stability, the recent struggles may tip the scales toward a coaching change altogether. So, what should the owner do? Many analysts suggest that while facing a tough decision, the Eagles must weigh the importance of continuity against the team’s recent performance.
