Brock Purdy may have gone from being called ‘Mr. Irrelevant’ to ‘Mr. Perfect.’ But there’s an aspect of his life that hasn’t changed since he was drafted, and it might not be characteristic of a starting QB. The 24-year-old may have helped the San Francisco 49ers to the Super Bowl LVIII, but last year, he brought his living situation to light. And well, that revelation may have brought Bay Area rent cost awareness to the forefront. If you haven’t figured it out yet, Brock Purdy still lives in a rented house!
“I still have a roommate. One of the offensive lineman here [in the 49ers],” Purdy said in an interview with Today. “He and I are still splitting the rent. I still drive my Toyota Sequoia. Other than that, it’s pretty simple.” This led to speculations about his 49ers contract, with some reportedly suggesting that fans might contribute to help him overcome his challenges. With a Super Bowl game coming his way, rumors ran amuck once more.
Speculations emerged that Purdy’s admirers would contribute money to provide financial aid if the quarterback led the team to the Super Bowl. According to the YouTube channel Petey’s Picks Sports, “After winning the NFC Championship, Brock Purdy has an absolutely insane Super Bowl bonus.” As per the video, considering the 49ers have taken their season as far as possible, “He’s out of rent, apparently.” The fans made a promise: ‘If you take us to the Super Bowl, we’ll make sure your rent is covered.’ It revealed, “That’s exactly what they’ve been doing, already raising over half a million dollars to help their quarterback out.”

The last pick of the 2022 NFL draft earns a $870,000 salary in his second season. Considering the taxes in California and the cost of living there, apart from his NFL-related expenses, the video suggested “he’s left with barely anything.” However, there is no substantial evidence that supports this statement, and therefore, it is highly likely that the news is fake. Purdy’s fans aren’t contributing any money for the quarterback’s well-being. In fact, while he may not have a massive signing bonus, his 2023 revelation sure worked in his favor.
After Brock Purdy revealed he still drives a Toyota, the Japanese car manufacturer reached out to the quarterback and signed Purdy to appear in Toyota’s regional advertising efforts across television and social media for the Northern California Toyota Dealers. As for his rent, he’s happy splitting it with his teammate, Nick Zakelj.

Living with Brock Purdy is “funny from the outside,” per Nick Zakelj
Offensive lineman Nick Zakelj & Purdy are best friends, and besides sharing a room, Zakelj also drives Purdy’s humble Toyota Sequoia. The 24-year-old quarterback confirmed in last year’s interview that they are still splitting room bills. After his revelation that living with Zakelj is “pretty simple,” Purdy’s teammate had a similar admission.
Sharing his thoughts on the room-sharing decision, Zakelj said, “We switch off. He’s got the upper hand on me right now. But we just hang out and watch movies here and there when we have free time from football. People joke about having the starting quarterback as your roommate. I think it’s funny from the outside.”

Although it’s true that Purdy could afford his own place with his $870,000 salary, living in San Francisco – known for its high cost of living – may be influencing Purdy’s budget-conscious choices. Despite the financial means, Purdy seems focused on saving his money in the early stages of his career. However, in the summer, Purdy got engaged to Jenna Brandt, and his roommate situation with his teammate could be coming to an end soon.
