Is Tyreek Hill's social media banter a distraction or just harmless fun for the Dolphins?

Besides sprinting toward the end zone on Sundays, it seems Tyreek Hill has a love for stirring things up on social media. In the recent episode of the Cheetah Riling Netizens, he sparked controversy with a playful, sarcastic remark while responding to the idea of a designed run for Tua Tagovailoa. Uh-Oh! Hill quipped: “Who gonna make that play now,” referencing his teammate’s concussion absence.

But, of course, Hill didn’t stop there. He later followed up with: “They put my account under review because of my last tweet🤦🏿‍♀️” — a cheeky jab at the backlash from his initial comment. No, it’s not the $9.4 billion X that got after him, but rather the X users weren’t too fond of his playful banter. It’s just Tyreek things at this point.

But the timing seems off. Sure, having fun and games online is all chill and cool. However, the Dolphins are in a pickle with a 2-3 start to the season. And Mr. Hill? Well, he can’t keep playing an online clown to some (with all the cryptic, sarcastic takes). At some point, one of the best receivers gotta put on the cleats and light up the gridiron. And save HC Mike McDaniel from the early season backlash!

See, the thing is, the reason why Hill’s getting the heat is because it came out a little insensitive. Especially considering it was Tua’s third concussion scare in week 2 against the Bills.

After a hard hit from Damar Hamlin left him in a troubling “fencing” posture, concerns about Tua’s future circled. But, despite the chatter, Tua’s aiming for a comeback as soon as week 8. So, given the gravity of the situation. Tyreek’s response did not really land well.

But even if we forget about this episode, there’s a lot that will get stuck and have gotten stuck with the Dolfans this season. Things that they want to get sorted during their bye-week ahead of the game against the Colts on Sunday, 20th October.

Let’s face it: the Dolphins have been stuck in neutral, and Mike McDaniel needs Tyreek Hill to break the sound barrier! Why? Well, folks, Miami hasn’t scored a touchdown in over 15 quarters! (Tua Tagovailoa’s 5-yarder TD pass to De’Von Achane in the first quarter of their week 2 showdown with the Bills was the last) Yeah, since then—Crickets.

Sure, Tua’s absence has been a big factor, but the offense needs to spark some life. I mean, the only touchdowns lately have come from two rushing plays. And is it really a recipe for success? Hmm, that’s something to think about. Tyreek Hill was this close to breaking free against the Patriots and even got behind the Titans’ secondary. But guess what? Tyler Huntley couldn’t connect.

It has reached the now-or-never point for Miami to unleash the Cheetah. Let him roam freely! Whether he’s hungry or not, that’s not on them, right? Hill’s season so far has been a mix-bag: 23 catches for 286 yards and one touchdown. But he must find a way to make magic happen with Jaylen Waddle.

Especially when fans are pretty vocal about their frustrations with McDaniel’s stubbornness on play-calling. After that dismal 24-3 loss to the Seahawks in Week 3, he shrugged it off, saying, “I would change it in a heartbeat if I thought someone else gave the team a better chance to win.” Really? It’s like a quarterback ignoring an open receiver when the offense is scrambling. What makes it worse is that he even hinted at addressing these issues during the offseason. But, alas, here we are…

What’s the bottom line? If Miami keeps throwing the ball with a quarterback who’s struggling to find his groove, they’re just digging themselves deeper. The clock’s ticking, and it feels like McDaniel’s stuck in a replay loop of past mistakes, refusing to learn from them. There’s time before their travels to Indy. If there’s any hope of working it out, it’s now.
