Week 11 brought a speculator comeback win for the Philadelphia Eagles. Trailing back with just 6-10 initially, they overcame in the fourth quarter, eventually defeating the Washington Commanders with 26-18. As obvious, it’s a night to celebrate for Philly. But is it?
Despite the shining win of the Eagles, one thing that remained noticed throughout the game was Jake Elliot’s performance. The kicker missed two field goals while playing against Washington on Thursday night at Philadelphia. In addition to that, he even made a rare and costly mistake – missing an extra point. Now that’s something worth noticing and questioning. Especially when Elliot is known as a player who hasn’t missed two FGs in a single game since 2019.
But today, it looked like it wasn’t just the day for him. Hence, it was obvious for the media to question coach Nick Sirianni on the issue. And if he would see Jake Elliot in the next games or not. To which, during a post-game presser, the HC replied, via reporter Eliot Shorr-Parks, “Elliott has made so many clutch kicks.” And hence, “he will continue to trust him.”

For Nick Sirianni, Jake Elliot is a “clutch” player, who has consistently delivered under pressure. Just as the head coach would reassure any player who made a mistake, Sirianni encouraged Elliot to focus on making the next critical kick because the team had total faith in him. He expressed, “Just like it would say to somebody who fumbled or dropped a pass in a moment, we believe you’re gonna have to make this kick though to help us win this football game. And he did get up 16 points and eight points are whatever was but we have so much faith in him. That’s what you do when the connection happens.”
So, Sirianni supported his player by saying, “Obviously he was going through a tough time. But this team believes so much in Jake Elliot because of his track record and who he is, the teammate. He is, the captain he is just wanted to let him know that we all believe in him.” Well, that’s how you back each other when anyone in the locker room is facing a rough patch. Therefore, Sirianni is giving another chance to his kicker, Jake Elliot. But not everyone is happy with the placekicker!

But thank god his teammates stepped up, making big plays to keep the momentum alive. They eventually helped the Eagles pull off a 26-18 victory at home. After the game, Elliott reflected on how meaningful it was to come out with a win despite his struggles. And that, he also showed gratitude to his team for believing in him despite the fall. During a post-game presser, the kicker said, “The fact that we were able to pull this out after everything I put them through was pretty special. No one bats an eye. Everyone has got a lot of confidence in me, which I appreciate.” Elliot said this, even though he knew the fans might have felt differently. And yes, the social media got fumed as many demanded his firing.

Jake Elliot is usually rock-solid, hitting 85.7% of his career field goals. This season has been rough, especially on longer kicks, where he’s missed all four attempts from 50 yards and beyond. Nevertheless, determined to get back on track, Elliot now plans to go over every kick this weekend to find out what went wrong.
