A lot of decisions made by coach Nick Sirianni were questioned after the Week 9 game. One major question is related to his decision to go on 4th downs and go for 2-point conversions.
The Philadelphia Eagles won the game against the Jacksonville Jaguars on Sunday. However, Nick Sirianni is thrown under fire due to his gameplay decisions. This came when the Eagles, with a 6-2 record, managed to hold their lead. This was despite some missed opportunities from Coach Nick Sirianni on November 3.
Instead of taking simpler points, they went for it on fourth down twice and attempted three 2-point conversions – all unsuccessful. Then, in the end, they had to rely on Jake Elliott. He called to kick a challenging 57-yard field goal with just 2:16 remaining on the clock. A poor decision for sure!

But for the head coach, it might not be a poor decision. During the post-game press conference, Nick Sirianni said, via NFL writer Rob Maaddi, “I have to be able to have the balls to do that” on going on 4th downs and going for 2-point conversions.
Nevertheless, the Eagles won 28-23 against the Jaguars. Thanks to Elliot and other star players of the team such as Saquon Barkley, whose backward yard leap, and Nakobe Dean whose game-saving interception, helped the Eagles to get their fourth straight win.
But this story isn’t a new one. If you check Nick Sirianni’s game book, you will find 4th down calls often.
Nick Sirianni explained why he goes for 4th downs and 2-point conversions!
It is true that even a 5% probability of winning a game can still lead to a big loss. Despite that, it seems Eagles coach Nick Sirianni doesn’t hold back from taking risks at the game. That’s the reason why he often opts for 4th downs and 2-point conversions during the matchups like what he did on Sunday. The reason? Nick Sirianni himself explained why!
Earlier the 43-year-old said that he believes each choice is made with the goal of putting the team in the best position to win. He acknowledged, “Every time we go for it on 4th down, I’m doing what I think is best for our football team at that particular time. I try to share with you guys as much as I can. But I’m not gonna make it a weekly habit of explaining to you guys why [we go for it]. Every time I do something like that, I’m doing it because I think it gives us the best chance to win the football game.”

Sirianni knows the weight of these calls and accepts full responsibility when they don’t work out. He emphasized that, as head coach, he’s prepared to shoulder the blame.
