This Sunday the NFL registered one of the biggest losses in the distribution of Sunday tickets. The fans were left frustrated all around the country as the snags proved to be too much to bear, leading the questions to surround the shift of the streaming site. While the audience has suffered at the hands of the changed streaming, the NFL sure seems to have faced the brunt of it as well.

The NFL wanted to partner with a streaming service for a very long time and was in talks with both Apple and YouTube for it. While the Apple deal did not pique the interest to be finalized, the NFL finally settled down with YouTube to make matches more accessible for the fans. However, in the wake of ease for the subscription, matters seem to have fallen in the opposite direction, landing the NFL in the possibility of a 9 billion dollar loss.

The concept of the Sunday ticket came up in 1994 which allowed fans to watch games that featured teams other than their home team so that they could cheer for their favorite teams too. The NFL has been in talks to revamp the entire method for two years and could have taken a leaf out of the concept of the NBA league pass.

Rather than taking the normal expected route, the NFL leaned toward YouTube streaming, expecting a turn out of better viewership for the season games. The NFL would not have anticipated what followed next as the fans were left dejected with the whole system that was put in place. A post on X highlighted a similar concern, elaborating on the probable loss to be faced by the league.

The post estimated that YouTube will lose $1.2 Billion this season due to the spectators being extremely dissatisfied with the streaming services provided for the matches. One of the sources also raised the issue raised by users that they were not familiar with the shift to the new platform and also came up with other concerns regarding the delay in the scores loading.

Fans are in outrage

The fans complained about streaming service issues like buffering and freezing when the game is on, leaving them frustrated with the system. While the YouTube account on X had reassured fans about the expected delay and resolution of the same, no seemingly prominent step had come forth in time for the same.
