The Jets officially announced that they were moving on from 41-year-old Aaron Rodgers. Though this biggest update should have ended the debates and talks about the Jets, to some extent, it is not catching a break. Rodgers’ (potentially) former franchise has parted ways with the 41-year-old QB but it has opened one more way for the Jets to save tremendous money. And importantly, updates about two more exits have hit the City of New York.
The offseason is nothing but teams adjusting for the upcoming season, but sometimes in a brutal way signifying that it’s all about business and zero tolerance towards inconsistencies. Well, after Aaron Glenn took over the head coaching job, things have been getting tight for the 41-year-old QB. But wait, it’s not only about Aaron Rodgers, but two more players who will be packing their stuff in the near future. NFL insider Ian Rapoport reported Monday, “Assuming Rodgers moves on in some fashion, the Jets also appear likely to move on from Davante Adams.” Well, this is not only one player who will take a hit of trade.
But before we move in to know the other player who’s gonna pack his bags along with Adams, let’s focus on Davante Adams. According to reports, the Jets will save a massive $30 million if they part ways with Davante Adams. The franchise will have to pay a staggering $35,640,000 base salary to Adams if they keep him back. Well, he always wanted to be with Rodgers! But wait, do you know which player ranks 3rd on the hit of Glenn and Co. after Aaron Rodgers and Davante Adams?

The other Jets player is wide receiver Allen Lazard. According to the NFL’s news division, this has the highest probability as “Lazard was oddly productive early in 2024.” If we look at Lazard’s stats in the 2024 season, he is 124th in receptions with only 37 catches. The No. 10 only scored six touchdowns in the season and covered 530 yards, only to rank 85th in the entire league. Well, the stats clearly look ‘soft’. So, if the Jets want to move on from him also, they will have to deal with the $13,184,000 cap hit Lazard is carrying. But this is Aaron Glenn’s era. Obviously, if the team can show the 41-year-old veteran the main gate of the headquarters, they would definitely not tolerate Lazard along with Adams.
But do you know, when we talk about the Jets having clearly stated about parting ways with Aaron Rodgers, he has pleaded with the franchise to keep him? Want to know more? Let’s get into it deeper.
Aaron Rodgers pleaded with the Jets to stay back
You must be asking, “Oh, has that really happened?” Well, according to confirmed reports, the answer is YES! According to Steve Helling and Ryan Dunleavy of the New York Post, Aaron Rodgers has pleaded before the Jets organization to keep him for a further season. According to the official post by the above reporters, Aaron Rodgers accepted the decision, “like a man going to the gallows.” But has he pleaded for the first time?

During the 2024 regular season, Rodgers admitted that he would take a salary cut to stay in the team and would also love to teach young quarterbacks.“As far as pay cuts, I think I’ve already proven I’m willing to take a pay cut,” Rodgers said on December 24, 2024. But Rodgers is a clever man. He knew what would happen in the future. As we discussed above about Davante Adams’ potential exit, Rodgers has already talked about it. “I think if you look at both Davante and I’s contracts moving forward for next year, there are cap numbers that would need to be worked around if they wanted to bring us both back,” Rodgers said, to Ian Rapoport.
