The quarterback chaos isn’t slowing down this offseason. The Patriots are still digging for their next Tom Brady, while the Vikings are juggling tough decisions- who to keep, who to trade. And then there’s the Indianapolis Colts, who look to reshape their blueprint. Why? Well, Anthony Richardson, their 2023 fourth-overall pick, hasn’t totally locked in his spot as the team’s future.
The 22-year-old’s rookie season started strong, but injuries cut it short. Never mind, that’s football. It happens. But even after returning in 2024, the Colts still kept mum. Richardson struggled, and let’s not forget the infamous moment when he left mid-game because he was “tired.”
Add in a benching episode, and now head coach Shane Steichen is reportedly eyeing a replacement. The Colts thought they had their man, but now it looks like they’re back to square one.

According to Dov Kleiman on X, rumors suggest that “The #Colts are looking at Daniel Jones and Trey Lance as veteran QB options, per @JFowlerESPN. Two phenomenal QB2’s with QB1 potential.”
The ex-Giants QB, who was traded to the Vikings, will be among the hot candidates to hit the market this time. In addition, he would also be a cost-effective option for a team that is looking to revamp its QB room. Or, in the Colts’ case, be the veteran for Anthony Richardson. On the other hand, they might also go with unrestricted free agent Trey Lance.

Lance made one start in the final week of this past season with the Cowboys. And now, with the Colts, if traded, he would compete with Anthony Richardson for the QB1 role. The same condition goes with Daniel Jones. Well, we are not surprised because last week, Shane Steichen revealed he would put Richardson to the test with other traded quarterbacks. If the Colts’s QB wins the competition against the potential veterans, the team will name him the starter. But things don’t seem favorable per many NFL analysts.
What’s your perspective on:
Is Anthony Richardson being unfairly judged, or is it time for the Colts to move on?
Have an interesting take?
Even analyst Kevin Clark expressed, “You have to give someone like Anthony Richardson a long runway to develop. They haven’t done that. All of a sudden, Chris Ballard and Shane Steichen are trying to save their jobs.” Richardson has recorded 1,814 passing yards and 8 TDs in the season. Of course, they are not incredible! But that doesn’t mean the athlete can’t play at all.
It just seems the Colts are arguably being unfair with their quarterback. Nevertheless, Richardson knows what he wants. And he is coming up for that too!
Is Anthony Richardson on the road to revenge?
As mentioned above, Shane Steichen is likely on the hunt for a veteran QB! In fact, he wants someone who can be the help and starter for Anthony Richardson and the team. But Richardson, who still thinks he is the man for the Colts, is eager to bounce back. And if you have any doubts regarding it, we know how the QB is training with the MVP, Josh Allen, this time.

According to recent reports, Richardson and Allen will work out together this offseason in Jacksonville, Florida. Undoubtedly, both have the size, the arm, and the raw talent. But while Allen made his leap, Richardson was still searching for his moment. So, now, as the Colts are hoping their young QB can follow Allen’s path, it remains to be seen what he learns from the Bills’s quarterback.
If you see Josh Allen over the years, his secret to being a better QB day by day is the reps. Throwing the football over and over until it becomes second nature. That’s what Allen revealed in an interview last year: “Just throwing the football and understanding the control of the football. As I’ve gotten older, in the offseason, I throw more. I figured out how to drive it, how to layer it, how to launch it.”

So, as Allen is a fan of Richardson, he wants the QB to follow this path, too. And he knows Anthony Richardson can do it. Thanks to his 60-yard TD throw in the Week 8 game. It’s safe to add that at least Allen has full faith in the young QB if not the Colts have!
