Finally, after the mid-season drama last year, the Giants are officially back in rebuild mode. Daniel Jones spent six seasons with the team but led them to the playoffs only once. This year, head coach Brian Daboll put in the work and managed to bring in veteran Super Bowl winner Russell Wilson. Now, the focus is on building a strong supporting cast around him. He is the new centerpiece of their offense.
The NFC East squad is in a strong position, holding the 3rd overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft. Initially, Shedeur Sanders seemed like their obvious choice. But now, things appear to be shifting.
The Giants recently placed outside linebacker Kayvon Thibodeaux on the trade market, fueling speculation that they might be targeting Penn State linebacker Abdul Carter. Thibodeaux was the 5th overall pick in the 2022 draft and signed a 4-year, $31.3 million deal. Over three seasons, he played in 43 games (all starts), racking up 11 passes defended, 6 forced fumbles, 21 sacks, 46 QB hits, and 127 total tackles (73 solo).

So the big question is—can the college standout be the right fit to elevate Russell Wilson and the Giants? Time will tell, but the signs are pointing toward bold moves ahead.

This year, Abdul Carter is the top non-QB prospect. In 42 college football games for Penn State, he had 1 interception, 13 defended passes, 5 forced fumbles, 23 sacks, and 104 tackles (68 solo). Moreover, he is also a confident player. A few days back, he highlighted the importance of solid defender players and said, “I feel like just saying that seeing how defensive players can take over a game, we’re just like a quarterback.” The confidence is great.
However, there are some worrying signs, too. Carter’s agent, Drew Rosenhaus, recently told ESPN that the LB was in rehab for a shoulder injury he picked up during the Boise State game. But most scouts and coaches have shown interest in him. Not just that. Browns GM Andrew Berry believed that the injury will not be a major worrying factor in the long run.
While the NY Giants are waiting and coming up with new strategies, they are hosting talented players. The Colorado QB will be in the building on Thursday, April 17.
