The Raiders‘ quarterback search has been anything but smooth. Remember when they thought Gardner Minshew’s mustache magic would lead them to glory? Or when rookie Aidan O’Connell was hailed as the next big thing, only to leave fans scratching their heads? It’s been a carousel of QBs, each promising the world but delivering… well, let’s just say anything but that.
Now that we’re in the offseason and there’s a new regime in Las Vegas, will they go for a rookie QB? The chances are as high as Joey Tribbiani’s appetite for a sandwich. Plus, the team has the No. 6 overall pick option in the 2025 NFL draft, and the word of the street is they’re eyeing Shedeur Sanders as their first QB pick—unless there’s a change of plan. The latest buzz is that the Las Vegas team wants to try to trade to number 1 for Cam Ward.

Oh yeah, you read that right. The team is planning to switch from Colorado to Miami. According to Sportskeeda’s Tony Pauline, “The overall belief from people in the league is that the Las Vegas Raiders will be one of the teams actively attempting to trade up with the hopes of selecting quarterback Cam Ward.”
So, the Raiders have the No. 6 overall pick option. That means the team may be able to draft Sanders, but they’re gonna fall short for Ward. According to Pauline, the team can fall in the range to draft the QB from Colorado, but the team is still expected to pursue trading up for Ward. But what about the Titans who hold the No. 1 overall pick? That’s where things get pretty interesting.
Coming from a brutal 3-14 season, the Titans are in desperate need of a franchise quarterback. BUT! If reports are to be believed, the team is keeping an open mind for their first pick. In simple terms, the team can probably trade the pick. And now that the Raiders are rumored to trade to number 1 for Cam Ward, it’s likely the Titans might prefer to trade down.
As for the Raiders, their QB carousel has spun so many times, that it’s starting to feel like an amusement park ride—except no one’s having fun. The team started three different QBs in the last season (Minshew, O’Connell, and Desmond Ridder), and none of them stood out. The result? A disastrous season ending with 4-13.
As for Ward, it’s easy to see why the team’s looking to draft him. The 22-year-old QB’s coming after a solid final season with Miami. The guy completed 67.2 percent of his throws for 4,313 yards and 39 touchdowns. If the team wants to trade him, they surely need to move up in the draft. Besides, they’ve other options in their bucket as well.
Will Russell Wilson land in Las Vegas?
At this point, it’s pretty much certain that Russell Wilson is leaving the Pittsburgh Steelers and may walk in the free agency. That being said, the veteran QB has an open market to explore new teams for the 2025 season. One of the teams can be the Raiders. Huh! Looks like the Raiders are everywhere in this offseason. But, are there any good reasons why the Raiders should go for Wilson?

For starters, Wilson’s former coach is now the head coach of the Las Vegas team. And ever since his hiring, there have been rumors of a Wilson-Carroll reunion. And when asked if Carroll is still in talks with Wilson, the HC responded that people would be surprised how much they still talk. “You would be surprised at how much we all still communicate,” Carroll said. “We still communicate and watch each other. So, it’s been really fun to watch the guys.”

The kicker? When asked about the rumors of him landing in Las Vegas, Russell Wilson shrugged it off. In fact, the guy’s still focusing on returning to the Steel City—like Dustin refusing to give up on his long-distance radio chats with Suzie. “I’m looking forward to hopefully going back to the Steelers and we’ll see what happens with the rest,” Wilson told The Associated Press before the AFC Pro Bowl. “I love it in Pittsburgh. … “Pete’s going to be a great coach, obviously. He’s great at what he does. But I’m focused on the Steelers.”

Pff! Talking about the Steelers QB drama, there are too many POVs. Russell Wilson wants to stay with the team. The coaching staff is probably rooting for Justin Fields. The owner and president of the team, Art Rooney II, is kinda confused about whether to go with Fields or Wilson. However, Rooney’s certain that the team wants a multi-year deal with the team’s next quarterback. Wilson or Fields? No clue.
Meanwhile, that’s not the concern for the Raiders. They have the no. 6 option to draft Sanders. Even better? They can move up to trade for the number 1 pick and can draft Cam Ward.
