I got one year left in that tank….Yeah, next year most likely will be my last. I would love for it to be at Philadelphia Eagles, you know what I’m saying? But if it ain’t, it’s cool. But if it is, I’m super blessed.” Jalen Hurts’ teammate, who said this ahead of the Super Bowl, is pretty intent that 2025 will be his last. Before you wonder whom we are talking about, let’s get straight to the name. At the age of 34, SB champion Darius Slay proved that age is just a number—credits to his solid season. But the shocking part now is that things might turn out against him this offseason.

Quarterbacks didn’t have much luck throwing Darius Slay’s way. It’s because they completed only 47.1% of their passes when he was the primary defender. Even without recording a single interception, he still made it difficult for opposing offenses. In fact, Jalen Hurts’ teammate gave up just two passing touchdowns all season and held quarterbacks to a 63.6 passer rating when they targeted him. That lockdown coverage showed he is still a top-tier cornerback in Nick Sirianni’s team. But….it might be his last with the Eagles. Wait, what?

Yes! According to the NFL Rumors on X, “#Eagles Darius Slay has real possibility of being traded or released this offseason.” We already know that Slay has already made it clear—he wants to retire after the upcoming season and hopes to finish his career with the Eagles. His 3 year, $42,000,000 contract runs through 2025, but there’s no guarantee Philly will keep him around.

So, it might be true as the reports suggest Nick Sirianni’s team isn’t expected to bring him back, despite his strong play. This means it’s likely the salary cap issue which might be a problem this time. In addition, the Eagles have a younger group of corners waiting in the wings—Quinyon Mitchell, Cooper DeJean, Isaiah Rodgers, Kelee Ringo, and Eli Ricks.

Darius Slay carries a $13.7 million cap hit in 2025, and if the Eagles release him after June 1, they’d save $4.3 million while taking a $9.4 million dead cap hit. So, it remains to be seen what happens next with the CB. On one side, the athlete’s future with Philadelphia is uncertain. On the other, he has been rewarded for the work he has done this season.

Raise a glass to Darius Slay!

Brunswick poured its heart into celebrating its hometown hero, Darius Slay. Family, friends, fans, and former classmates all came up to honor a man who reached the pinnacle of his profession. Without any doubt, Slay wasn’t just part of the Eagles’s Super Bowl-winning team. He was a key member, helping lead the NFL’s top defense to a dominant 40-22 victory over the Chiefs. And now, just two weeks later, he was back where it all started—Brunswick High, the place that shaped him.

According to reporter John Clark on X, “Darius Slay two Sundays ago became a Super Bowl champ for the first time. He was honored this weekend in his home state of Georgia and was given a key to the city of Brunswick, Georgia, his hometown. They had a parade for him and he got emotional.” Yes! The city threw a parade in his honor, starting at Howard Coffin Park and rolling through town to City Hall.

During this event, Mayor Cosby Johnson, who was also one of the key organizers, spoke about Darius Slay’s journey—from a young kid with big dreams to a Super Bowl champion. Even Slay had his moment while speaking to the crowd, expressing his pride and thankfulness to the city. However, the most important part of the occasion came when Slay was handed the key to the city—a symbol of the pride and love Brunswick has for its very own star.
