Alright, Steelers fans, buckle up because things are messy in Pittsburgh. Mike Tomlin has been running a tight ship for years, but let’s be real—the QB situation has been straight-up chaos since Big Ben retired. They’ve been playing musical chairs with Justin Fields and Russell Wilson, but neither of them has locked down the job. There’s talk that a massive name could enter the chat. And if this actually goes down, Tomlin might cook up his boldest QB move yet.
Enter: Aaron Rodgers. Yeah, the same Rodgers who was supposed to save the Jets but ended up tearing his Achilles four plays into the season. Fast forward to now—he’s gearing up to hit free agency after the Jets basically said, ‘Thanks, but nah.’ But as per an update on X by Adam Schefter, Aaron Rodgers’ move to Pittsburgh might be on the cards, as he wrote, “Steelers continue talking to Justin Fields and Russell Wilson, but…Aaron Rodgers has emerged as a quarterback option in Pittsburgh, per league sources. Rodgers and the Steelers are expected to talk and explore a union. The idea of Rodgers playing for Mike Tomlin is in play.”

And let’s be real, the Steelers need to figure out their QB mess. 2024 was a rollercoaster. Fields started off solid at 4-2, but then they swapped in Wilson, who popped off at first—winning six of his first seven starts—before the team completely imploded. Five straight Ls, including a 28-14 wild-card loss to the Ravens. Yikes. If Pittsburgh wants to be taken seriously again, they gotta lock in a QB who can actually keep them competitive.
Rodgers’ Jets era was a disaster. First, the Achilles tear. Then, he came back in 2024 and actually played all 17 games, putting up solid numbers -3,897 yards, 28 TDs, 11 INTs—but the team still stunk, finishing 5-12. The Jets hit the panic button, fired their GM (Joe Douglas) and coach (Robert Saleh), and are now kicking Rodgers to the curb post-June 1 to spread out his insane $49M cap hit. Now, teams are circling like sharks.
The Giants? They wanted Matthew Stafford, but since he’s staying with the Rams, they’re checking out Aaron Rodgers. The Vikings? They might be interested since rookie J.J. McCarthy is still recovering. And then there’s the Raiders—Maxx Crosby is literally begging for him, saying, “I think with all the doubt and all the negativity around Aaron Rodgers—oh, he needs to retire, things like that, getting cut by the Jets—I think he’s going to come back. I know he’s 41, but I think he’s going to have a big year this year, and I hope it’s in our town.”
NFL vet Peter King is fully on board with Rodgers-to-Pittsburgh, arguing that the Steelers’ defense—led by aging stars like Cam Heyward and T.J. Watt—needs a QB who can actually keep up with Baltimore and Cincy. “That guy to me would be Aaron Rodgers,” King said on Mad Dog Sports Radio.
What’s your perspective on:
Could Aaron Rodgers be the savior the Steelers desperately need, or is he past his prime?
Have an interesting take?
And here’s the wildest part—Rodgers himself has mad respect for Tomlin. “I’m a big Mike Tomlin fan.” He said. “I have been for a long time. I like the way that he speaks about his team, I like the way that he goes about his business, I like his confidence,” Rodgers once said. That kind of admiration matters, especially if Pittsburgh ends up rethinking their QB plans.
If Pittsburgh decides to make a move, things could get really interesting. Whether they stick with Wilson, give Fields another shot, or go full send on Rodgers, one thing’s for sure—this QB situation is about to be absolute chaos. Stay tuned, because Tomlin’s got some huge decisions to make.

Justin Fields in his waiting era as the Steelers & Jets play the patience game
Justin Fields is in decision purgatory right now. He’s been negotiating with the Steelers regarding monetary aspects while being very explicit about wanting some sort of assurances on the start he might be making in the future. But he’s also got his eye on the Jets. The problem? He literally can’t make a move until the Jets drop their official offer, and that won’t happen until after noon today. So for now, my guy is just chillin’ while two teams figure out if they actually want him.
The Steelers and Fields have been talking, but let’s keep it real. They’re not even close to locking in a deal. Meanwhile, the Jets need a QB who can actually move, and Fields fits that bill. If they throw him the bag, he might just pack up and dip.
Meanwhile, Pittsburgh’s QB situation is looking hella sus. Right now, neither Fields nor Wilson is under contract for 2025, which means—brace yourself—the Steelers literally don’t have a starting QB. That’s why they’re already sniffing around other options, including (wait for it) Sam Darnold. Yeah… desperate times, man.

Oh, and because the Steelers can’t help but stir the pot, they just pulled off a massive trade for DK Metcalf. That’s a huge move ($150 million), but will Fields actually stick around to be the guy throwing him dimes? Or is he gonna peace out for a team that gives him the main character energy?
Bottom line—Fields isn’t about to settle for mid. He wants a team that actually wants him and gives him a real shot at winning. Whether that’s in Pittsburgh or the Big Apple, this decision is gonna shake up the league. Stay tuned, ‘cause this QB saga is far from over.
