I love it here and I think there is a lot more to do,” said Russell Wilson during the last press conference of the season. Since then there have been many reports claiming that the Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin preferred the young Justin Fields over the veteran. But wait, there’s a surprise. Pete Carroll, making a comeback in the league as the Raiders head coach, is also reminiscing about the success he and Wilson had at the Seahawks.

Wilson came at a veteran minimum 1-year $1.25 million contract in 2024. But the rumors are strong that he could get a 2-year $80 million fully guaranteed contract extension. If the Steelers don’t give him that, Pete Carroll might sign the 36-year-old QB at that amount. The situation changed when the owner Art Rooney II expressed interest in him. It started the dogfight.

Tomlin was miffed at the fact that they lost the last 4 games of the season in a row. They had a pretty good team, but the slump continued in the wildcard game against the Ravens. They couldn’t score more than 17 points in those 5 games. While Russell Wilson had a 6-1 win-loss record through Week 14, four consecutive losses led to a 6-5 finish for the 2024 season.

If numbers could define his season, Russ got sacked 18 times in his last 5 games. In the Wildcard game vs the Ravens, he was intercepted twice for a mere 270 yards.

It’s a surprise that Raiders HC wants to sign him. Though they had a good time, the quarterback reportedly tried to get the coach removed from the Seahawks. However, Wilson clarified that he never did that and they were like a family. The HC has always remained silent on the issue. So, it makes his contract extension much more interesting.

Now the question arises, if both teams offer him the same, what choice will he make? Will he change his jersey and reunite with his former coach or remain committed to the Black and the Gold?

Russell Wilson might stay at the Steelers

In January, Russ was confident about getting an extension. The signal caller even said, “I think they’ve known that I’ve always wanted to be here and play here, but it is also a process.” Even after all the rumors about Mike Tomlin preferring Fields, he has remained committed to the Steelers, praising the team.

Looks like, Russell Wilson might stay at the Steelers as he posted an Instagram story of a fan from Mexico City, with a Steelers cap on. But before finalizing anything, he is enjoying time with his family. The QB and his superstar wife, Ciara, wowed fans with a cute post on Valentine’s Day, expressing their love and her positive influence on ‘Mr. Unlimited.’

However, if he truly wants to make a name for himself, the results must improve. The final month of the season was a disaster, and things need to change. The Steelers would certainly welcome that.
