Have you seen Pete Carroll‘s recent viral video? He was throwing the ball with the Raiders players like a young quarterback. It was mesmerizing to see how a 73-year-old man was not just mentally sharp but also physically fit. This reminds us to focus our cameras on the Raiders’ offense. Since Pete Carroll joined the Las Vegas team, everyone expected him to improve the passing attack and receiving corps from day one. And while talking about Tom Brady‘s team, Kyle Shanahan’s 49ers are also showing no chill from the offense’s standpoint.

As both teams are eyeing the same target, one of the most deserving and highly sought-after free agents could significantly elevate both teams’ offenses. Wide receiver Elijah Moore. Known for his impressive talent and potential, Moore has drawn attention from several franchises. And it’s clear why. According to various reports (or perhaps rumors), both the Raiders and 49ers are among the teams showing serious interest in him.

Moore, whose career earnings have already surpassed $10 million, is undoubtedly a valuable asset in the open market. He hit free agency after his contract with the New York Jets, which he initially signed in 2021, came to an end. This development has put his name on the radar of many NFL teams, all eager to secure a player with such promise and potential at this stage of his career.

After signing a four-year contract worth $8,940,426, the Cleveland Browns traded him in the 2023 season. There, he earned more than $5 million over two years. Now, at 25 years old, he is gaining interest from multiple franchises, but why?

Well, Elijah’s stats are mesmerizing. The second-round, 34th overall pick of the New York Jets in the 2021 NFL Draft has made a name for himself. In 2024, Elijah had 61 receptions for 538 yards while scoring one crucial touchdown for the Browns. So far, Elijah has played 61 games, receiving 200 throws on 348 targets, covering 2,162 yards while landing nine touchdowns. Though his average has shown some struggles, he’s still poised to hit the gridiron this season.

While Kyle Shanahan and Pete Carroll want to add this beast, the 49ers are beating everyone to the punch with a classy kicker to add competition to Jake Moody. Let’s dive in to learn more!

Kyle Shanahan plans to keep Jake Moody on his toes

As all NFL teams are busy strategizing for the upcoming year, the 49ers’ head coach dropped a bombshell in the franchise’s special teams crew. When asked about changes to the special teams or roster, Kyle Shanahan said, “Yeah, we are going to bring someone else in. We weren’t going to sign a guy right away in free agency. But I know Brant and Colt are looking into some kickers at these kicking camps throughout the colleges.” He also added, “But we’d more likely like to add a veteran. Hopefully after the draft.” The 49ers picked the top-ranked kicker in the 2023 NFL Draft: Jake Moody.

And the placekicker prospects for the 2025 NFL Draft? There are at least five names the 49ers could consider to keep Moody on his toes. Andres Borregales from Miami, Ryan Fitzgerald from Florida State, Ben Sauls from Pittsburgh, Gino Garcia from Texas Tech, and Tyler Loop from Arizona. Though these names appear on NFL Draft Buzz, Shanahan’s team will probably be exploring more options to strengthen the kicking position.

Last season, Jake Moody did well in his kicking duties, making 97% of extra points. However, his 70.6% field goals stat is a bit concerning. Well, his position holds the importance for accumulating points at crucial moments, as seen with the Chiefs’ Harrison Butker. It will be interesting to see which player Kyle Shanahan adds to compete with Moody.
