It’s been several weeks, and the Dallas Cowboys are still taking their time to address the ongoing conflict surrounding Micah Parsons‘ much-anticipated contract extension. Over the past few weeks, a lot has transpired, and the situation has evolved in ways that no one really saw coming. Initially, Parsons had expected an unprecedented and highly significant extension that would secure his place as one of the league’s highest-paid players.
However, things have not unfolded as expected. And now, the negotiation directions seem quite the opposite of what many had anticipated. In a report released on Tuesday, both Jerry Jones and Stephen Jones indicated a shift in their approach. Probably thinking out of the box, eh?
NFL insider Jori Epstein reported a shocking fact on Tuesday. She wrote on her X page, “Multiple sources confirm to me that Micah Parsons asked Stephen & Jerry Jones to call his agent, David Mulugheta, to negotiate.” The reporter dropped a bombshell, saying, “Sources also confirm that the Joneses have not made that call.”

She also said Mulugheta had talked to the Cowboys’ director of salary cap and player contracts, Adam Prasifka. Before we dive into the agent controversy, let’s check on the status of Parsons’ extension.

Unlike other teams focusing on making their quarterbacks on top of the payment mountain, as seen with Lamar Jackson, the Cowboys are pursuing a unique strategy. A few days ago, discussions swirled around, making Micah the highest-paid non-QB. The Cowboys’ star cornerback seeks a substantial contract extension- $40 million annually.
Yet, as Jane Slater reported in March, the talks are not progressing rapidly.
Slater reported 12 days ago, “While there is chatter on Twitter about Micah Parsons and a contract extension being finalized, I checked. Not only is it NOT done, but what would be characterized as meaningful talks haven’t even begun yet, according to two informed sources.”
She also mentioned that the sources informing her about Micah Parsons’ contract extension talks in Dallas are not meaningful enough to put pen to paper. The Parsons’ contract is progressing at a turtle’s pace, and there doesn’t seem to be a clear end in sight.
As you know, Micah mentioned in his post about the contract that it wouldn’t happen without David Mulugheta’s involvement. This stance might have shifted things in other directions. Let’s check out the agent’s controversy.
Jerry Jones, Micah Parsons, and the controversy involving David Mulugheta
According to another NFL reporter, Clarence Hill Jr., Jerry Jones disrespected Micah’s agent on Tuesday. The reporter wrote on his X page, “Jerry Jones with blatant disrespect to Micah Parsons’ agent, David Mulugheta: The agent is not a concern here… I don’t know his name.”
The Cowboys CB reposted the tweet with a clear message saying, “Facts!! David is the best, and I will not be doing any deal without @DavidMulugheta involved!” That was a powerful message, and in fact, a conflicting one.

The CB also added, “There is no one I trust more when it comes to negotiating contracts than David! There will be no backdoors in this contract negotiation,” while providing a clear update on where this talk would go in the future.
In fact, Jerry Jones has a unique way of dealing with such hot topics. Mostly, he stays quiet, dragging things out until the last minute.

Well, dragging out Parsons’ contract extension would undoubtedly hamper the Cowboys’ organization. As free agency approaches its climax, the demand for Micah would increase if Jerry Jones didn’t retain him. Currently, Parsons is in the last year of his four-year, $17,079,793 contract.
He will hit free agency next year unless he receives a contract extension this year, or the Cowboys can exercise the fifth-year option on him for one more year. Let’s see what will happen soon.
