It seems that one player’s time with the New York Jets has come to a premature end. The team lost to the Cleveland Browns on Thursday Night Football and has sunk further with a 6-10 record. With just one game remaining in the regular season, some last-minute changes are underway over at the Jets camp in a bid to improve their record. If the Jets win their upcoming game, it will be their best season in four years.
So, who is this player that has been axed? And is he set to be reunited with his former coach Kevin Stefnaski in the Cleveland Browns as early as this season once his 24-hour waiver period ends?

@TannerPhiferNFL took to X to share that there is a possibility that Running Back Dalvin Cook might join the Browns and be reunited with head coach Stefanskia. Cook had played under Stefanski during his time with the Minnesota Vikings. His time with the Jets came to an abrupt end when they waived him on January 2. Both parties approved the move, which will help Cook get noticed by a playoff team. Furthermore, he revised his agreement to eliminate any leftover guarantees. For weeks, Cook’s playing time had been declining, and on Thursday night, he was in uniform but did not play a single snap in the Jets’ career-opening 37-20 loss to the Browns.

However, he remains one of the most explosive players at the position, but his efficiency has plummeted in recent years — a reason the Vikings released him. But Stefanski could carve out a role for Cook with the Browns missing Nick Chubb, who suffered a season-ending knee injury in Week 2. Cleveland has rolled with Jerome Ford and Kareem Hunt, neither of whom is as explosive as Cook. Stefanski could scheme a handful of plays to Cook in the interim of him learning the offense, and at the very least, have him as an insurance policy if either back goes down.
With the Jets not having worked out for him, can a possible move to the Browns revive the 28-year-old’s career?

After “a hard season”, coach Robert Saleh said about Cook the following day, “You know when a player is hurting, and I know he’s hurting.” But his tale is far from over. Cook only carried the ball 67 times for 214 yards in the 15 games he played, which is 1.4 yards less than his career average of 3.2 yards per carry. His offensive snap total of just 202 was his lowest since his injury-shortened rookie campaign with the Vikings in 2017.
Defenses have disrupted a rotating cast of backup quarterbacks and concentrated their efforts on stopping the rush, as the Jets fell to 30th in passing yards. Behind an offensive line that ranks 31st in run-block win rate, New York’s ground game ranks 28th in yards and 31st in attempts. Behind the Jets line, Cook averaged a career-low 3.2 yards per carry.
