“I just want to keep playing good football. I love competing. Obviously getting a chance to make runs in the playoffs, and competing for Lombardi trophies is what it’s all about. Once you get a taste of one, you want more of them. I love playing this game.” Matthew Stafford has said this as his return to the NFL was questioned. Kelly, Stafford’s wife, also told the reporters he was coming back. But here is a catch! Things are going on and Matthew Stafford is a part of it.
But before we look closely into the issue of Matthew Stafford, his friend and star wideout, Cooper Kupp, will probably face a trade. In Kupp’s case, he is in a win-win condition. According to reports (or rumors?), Cooper Kupp has the top interest in the Detroit Lions. It’s also said the Lions star QB Jared Goff has friendly ties with the Rams WR.
Besides this, the General Manager, Brad Holmes, is also a ‘fan’ of Cooper Kupp. Looks like the WR is almost gonna land in Detroit this offseason.

If we look at Cooper Kupp’s three-year contract of $80,100,000, Kupp should receive a base salary of $12,500,000 for 2025. Along with that, Matthew Stafford’s WR will also get a $7,500,000 roster bonus. According to Adam Schefter, an NFL insider, the Rams are OKAY with giving him some money, but the high chances remain the Rams want to trade Cooper Kupp.
And now, get back to the topic of Matthew Stafford. The QB himself and the franchise also want to move on from each other. It will obviously be a weird decision to trade the QB who helped the team win a Super Bowl three years ago. But what if there are other teams interested in Matthew Stafford? Let’s dive into the issue!
Matthew Stafford’s top landing spot if trade happens
Matthew Stafford helped the Rams clinch the playoff spot in the 2024 season after winning the NFC West. But after a loss against the Eagles in the divisional round their season ended. The 37-year-old Stafford’s retirement was discussed this year as well. Yet, as the QB will probably return after a potential retirement, the Steelers and the Giants are considered great spots for Stafford.

According to rumors, the 37-year-old SB champion had already shown disinterest in playing for the Rams. However, if the franchise also wants the QB to be traded who has two years left on the contract, they are open to trade to interested teams. One such spot is the Steelers.

Both of the QBs of the Steelers, Justin Fields, and Russell Wilson, are likely to hit free agency again. The Steelers owner has said, “I would say most likely we probably don’t wind up bringing them both back.” So, the rumors tell us that Pittsburgh would be a great fit for Matthew Stafford.
Another such landing spot is the Giants. Luckily, the Giants can pick third overall in the upcoming draft. If they don’t pick Shedeur Sanders or Ward, the Rams QB would be a great option for them. And if we look at the contract details, the Rams organization would not bear a much higher charge for trading the QB, as there is only $4 million guaranteed money left on Matthew Stafford’s contract.
