The Kansas City Chiefs etched their NFL dominance after the massive Super Bowl win. It’s safe to say that their defense was a hallmark of their success, and the Chiefs would do anything to keep that intact. In the same spirit, they might have to pay special heed to their DE Charles Omenihu, who got injured in the conference playoff game against the Baltimore Ravens.

Omenihu recorded near identical numbers to Chris Jones, their veteran DT, and quickly cemented his place in the team as someone invaluable. However, the Kansas City Chiefs plan to franchise tag Chris Jones and re-negotiate his contract even further. So where does this leave Omenihu? The Chiefs DE just made a post on X and it seems like he is upset over something.

What is Charles Omenihu upset over?

Considering the defensive end’s post on X, the answer would most likely be circumstances or so one would think. His post suggested a cryptic message from an evidently disappointed Omenihu who shared that he would try to do his best again to catch the attention of the team. His post on X said, “Didn’t have a full season and put up numbers. Does that go unnoticed? Might have to do it again to get what I want at the end.”

He indeed didn’t have a full season to show his prowess on the field. He played 11 games in the season and recorded 18 solo tackles, 7 sacks, and 2 forced fumbles. As soon as the post was up on social media, many fans started associating it with the speculations surrounding Chris Jones, who recorded 20 solo tackles, 10.5 sacks, and no forced fumbles for the 2023 regular season.

Despite the similarity of the competitive numbers put by both players, Omenihu’s contract is not close to someone like Chris Jones. It is salient to note that Omenihu played his fifth season in the league and his current post might have served as a reminder of the same. Looking deeper into the message, it wouldn’t be far-fetched to say that he doesn’t think that the Kansas City Chiefs appreciate him much. Recently he posted, “Want to feel appreciated.” on his X account.

Omenihu didn’t directly share his demands with the team, but it seems like “appreciating” him would require the Chiefs to re-negotiate his contract, just like they did with Chris Jones.

Recently, we saw Chris Jones make more than a million in incentives in a single game where he completed his sacks and snaps quota. This is where the Chiefs have a decision to make. Jones is about to earn almost $4.2 million in incentives and is turning a free agent this year. Earlier last season, he negotiated a deal with the Chiefs and that helped him earn a colossal amount.

If tChiefs don’t franchise-tag Chris Jones, he will turn into a free agent and anyone in need of a DT can hire him for his services. Undoubtedly, Jones is an elite player and teams would do anything to get their hands on him. In the wake of all this, the Chiefs’ efforts of trying to retain Chris Jones might end up harming them as Omenihu might decide to leave them for better opportunities.

However, their matters don’t end there because their CB L’Jarius Sneed is also nearing the end of his contract and is set to become a free agent this off-season. This doesn’t mean that the Chiefs would overlook Omenihu’s request, but that the team might have to try and work their differences with him.
