NFL Rumors: Bill Belichick to Become Kansas City Chiefs Head Coach? Andy Reid to Retire Soon?

One could not even fathom the idea of the Kansas City Chiefs having any other coach than Andy Reid. His humble, yet dedicated behavior might be something that the Chiefs will miss if he ever decides to retire. However, one would think that the 65-year-old wouldn’t like to retire just because of the age factor; especially when aged coaches like Bill Belichick are still trying to find a team to coach.

In the wake of this season coming to an end, rumors around Andy Reid’s retirement are gaining traction. And people already can guess who might be taking his spot as the Chiefs’ new HC. The answer may be something polarizing; something that is very opposite to the Kansas City Chiefs’ culture.

A post from ‘Savage Sports’ on X put out a rumor about Bill Belichick possibly replacing Andy Reid if he were to retire after this season. The post on X is captioned, “RUMOR: Bill Belichick could replace Andy Reid as head coach for the Kansas City Chiefs if Andy Reid retires after this season.” By the looks of it, the post has gone viral and is sitting at more than 110k views.

As teams around the league make their classic moves, there are arguably fewer and fewer open jobs for Belichick to fill. This is a scenario that even Adam Schefter addressed on ESPN’s ‘Get Up’. He said, “So if the Chiefs were to win the Super Bowl this year, could that, would that, make him more likely to walk? And if he did walk, at that point in time and you’re the Kansas City Chiefs and Bill Belichick were still sitting out there, would that not be an interesting possibility? If that’s what Andy Reid decided to do.”

“To go take a run at arguably the greatest coach of all time and to replace one legend with another? Again, we’re having fun. We’re throwing things out there, but it’s interesting to watch if the Chiefs can find a way to win the Super Bowl,” he said. On this, the show’s host, Mike Greenberg said, “Where there’s a little bit of smoke, and if Schefty’s willing to joke about it, it feels like there’s a little bit of fire.”

For now, the people are complacent and are taking it as just another rumor let out in the NFL universe to cause a little conundrum. Also, it is safe to say that people are not falling for the so-called “rumor”. However, Andy Reid himself was quick to shut these rumors down just before the wild-card game against the Miami Dolphins.

Andy Reid may be old, but he ain’t that old!

Jordan Foote of the ‘Arrowhead Report’ pointed out exactly what Reid was thinking about his retirement in his post on X. “Andy Reid on whether he plans to coach the Chiefs next year: “I haven’t even thought about that, Nate (@ByNateTaylor). I’m thinking about one thing. I figured that would come up when you guys were asking these questions because I’m old. But not that old,” declared Reid, putting a halt to retirement rumors.

Of all people, Andy Reid doesn’t have time to pay heed to the rumors as the Kansas City Chiefs gear up for the crucial Championship game against the Ravens. This is a rivalry that boasts a history of thrilling moments and unforgettable plays.

The Chiefs are in their 6 straight AFC Championship game, while this is the first one at home for the Ravens. The Chiefs met the Ravens last time in September 2021 and got upset by the Ravens in Baltimore. Mahomes is 3-1 against Lamar Jackson, and the only game he lost was at the M&T Bank Stadium.
