The pain of the Super Bowl LIX loss hasn’t gone away yet. In the minds and the hearts of the Chiefs Kingdom, it’s painful to even reminisce about the game. For Andy Reid, the sting of Super Bowl LIX isn’t just about a single game—it’s about lost opportunities, missed plays, and the brutal reality of coming up short. He’s been here before. He knows what it takes to bounce back. And as the offseason begins, he’s already looking ahead, piecing together the blueprint for another championship run.
Patrick Mahomes might be the league’s ultimate magician, but even the best need the right weapons. With the free agency and draft looming, Kansas City’s front office is working overtime to reload. Rumors are already swirling—big names, big moves, and a big decision to make. Will the Chiefs make a splash with a $72 million offensive weapon? Or will they turn to the draft to shore up the defense?
One thing’s certain: Reid isn’t settling for second place. The head coach has told his locker room to stay motivated and prepared for the next season. As we enter the free agency, more names that they may acquire are coming up. After failing to cross the final hurdle with relatively young receivers, the HC is now preparing to bring in some experience.

The NFL rumor mill has already claimed that the Chiefs have reached out to the Seahawks for a trade of their receiver DK Metcalf. But the question is about his contract. The Seahawks signed a 3-year $72 million contract extension till 2025. How much will the Chiefs shell out for him?

The receiver impressed everyone with his performance in the 2024 season. He played 15 games (12 as a starter) and recorded 66 receptions for 992 receiving yards with 5 touchdowns. The Hawks might choose to trigger their potential out which would save them $11 million in payouts, with $21 million dead value sitting on the salary cap. It’s a win-win situation for Andy Reid and DK Metcalf.
Just like Ice Cube spitting bars, the receiver has been using Instagram to send messages. In January, he posted a carousel of photos with the caption, “You not blind so you see that I’m havin it.” One month before that, he posted photos before a game and wrote, “If I keep it too real, excuse me.”
Well, this is the time of the trades, so we know that the Chiefs had to go for some fresh energy. However, it’s not only the offensive line that needs attention. The coaches need to pay attention to their defense as well. It was just crushed in the Super Bowl by a team that had put together an almost utopian unit. If they really want to win the trophy again, it needs to be top-notch.
Andy Reid & Chiefs looking at top draft prospect
That’s why the head coach has told his scouts to go from college to college and find the best talent. The combine will happen this weekend which will clear out all doubts for most players. The Chiefs are also on the lookout for a defensive player for the long term, as two of their cornerbacks, Jaylen Watson and Joshua Williams, might become free agents after the 2025 season.

The scouts have reportedly told Andy Reid that Virginia Tech cornerback Dorian Strong is a potential draftee choice in the upcoming 2025 NFL Draft. The 6 feet 185 lbs athlete has played brilliantly for the college in the 2024 season. He recorded 32 tackles (20 solo), 1 fumble, 2 interceptions, and 6 defended passes.
Many analysts have also called him a 4th round prospect for the Chiefs. While the college player has shown a strong understanding of coverage zones, there are limitations to his arm length and physical strength. But those can be worked upon once he joins the league.
