Will Andy Reid retire after this season? The Kansas City Chiefs and everyone is in fear of this NFL rumor. ProFootballTalk owner Mike Florio, ignited this speculation, raising concerns for Patrick Mahomes, the Chiefs, and fans.

The 65-year-old coach, with .727 win percentage, stands fourth after Bill Belichick, (Don Shula and George Halas still being in the top 2). In his 10 complete seasons, Reid has recorded nine 10-plus win seasons, and as he is currently in his 11th, the coach has already helped his team reach the playoffs again. In this current scenario, his retirement would definitely be one of the NFL’s biggest shocks for the franchise. So, will he be leaving? Florio has some reasons to back up his statements.

Despite Andy Reid dismissing his retirement speculations, sports reporter and PFT Live co-host Mike Florio said that “there’s reason to believe the possibility of Andy Reid retiring is on the Chiefs radar.” Florio noted that the uncertainty surrounding Reid’s future could impact the NFL coaching market, pushing Clark Hunt to look out for potential candidates, perhaps  Bill Belichick and Jim Harbaugh.

Florio expressed his viewpoint, stating that although Reid has denied the rumors, it could be a way to keep people away from thinking about his retirement plans for the time being. The sportswriter continued, “I think there’s reason to believe. The Chiefs have the possibility on their radar screen; we’ll find out when the season ends. You know, a lot of times guy keeps his mouth shut until it’s all said and done. He doesn’t want to be the story. He doesn’t want to be the focal point. He doesn’t want it to be the issue.”

Although Florio thinks of his potential retirement, coach Reid already cleared his stance on the so-called retirement plan.

Andy Reid has already put a halt to his retirement rumors

Around a week ago, coach Andy Reid appeared in a post-game press conference where he was asked about his plans for retirement after some coaches were fired after the season. Reid said, “I haven’t even thought about that. I figured that would come up as you were asking me these questions (Belichick, Saban, and Carroll) because I’m old, but I’m not that old.”

Interestingly, last year too, when Reid was asked about his retirement plans, he called himself “too old” to retire. And he said something similar to that again this year. So, one can accept that there is barely any weight in these retirement rumors. At the age of 65, Reid is presently the oldest active head coach in the NFL. However, this title might not last long, as 71-year-old coach Bill Belichick has not officially retired from the league, and might be joining a new team next season.
